Has anyone gotten the chance to test drive the Audi S5? In particular anyone with a Cayman S test driven it? what did you like better, what didn't you like about the S5? How does it compare to the Cayman S? Th dealership down here in Iowa does not have an S5 or even an A5 so i have not been able to test drive it to see what its like. I have not head too much hype about it except for the Audi commercials. I saw one on the road the other day as I was headed toward chicago it looked pretty good in the side mirror as it approached. Just looking for some thoughts and opinions on the S5 compared to the CS.

I'm curious, what makes you think yous CS is slower than an S3 and in what sense? Is it 0-60, 1/4 mile, top speed, on the track? Have you gone head-to-head against an S3?
The S5 was on my short list & I drove it against the TT, 3 series coupe & CS. The interior was, hands down, the nicest of all the cars I drove. The big problem I had with the S5 was the feeling of being disconnected from the road - *very* light steering. Not quite as insulated from the road as the 3 Series, but not even in the same league as the TT - not to mention the CS.
The other offputting thing was the gearbox on the S5. I know that it's likely to loosen up after a while, but "clunky" is the best way to describe it. Contrasted with the CS - which was "buttah" from mile 1, the S5's gearbox felt as if it was full of mud.
They have a fleet of them at Infineon for the Audi Experience. When at an Audi Club driving event last year (right when S5 was hitting the U.S.), they let us drive them through a slalom / mini Auto-X course to get a feel for them. I did three or four runs.
Certainly compared to prior S4 / S6 models (in stock form), the S5 pushed less and felt a lot more "together." To me it felt more like a BMW.
Nice smooth engine, decent power and great interior-- but a big sedan.
TOTALLY different car than a CS. I would think it competes more with 335i / 535i than the M3/M5-- let alone the Cayman (in terms of sportiness).
As other said, the S5's interior is very nice. That being said, I would NEVER trade one for my CS. Night and day difference. The S5 just feels too damn heavy.

I had a B6 S4 before the Cayman and have driven an S5 ( I also live in Iowa...where are you located? ) I loved the S5, but its a totally different beast than the CS. I just wanted something different and the S5 was too much like my S4...plus, they don't have the Porsche mystique. I would consider one as a DD though.

+1, think the S3 is more like GTI / R32 territory, not Porsche!

A good car will get you from point A to point B. A great car... will just get you into trouble!
The S5 vs. Cayman S battle went on in my head for many months. Two months ago, I went to the dealer and was set on an S5. But after looking at the cost of the car and gas mileage, I went with a preowned 2007 CS with 6000 miles. Better mileage, lots of fun, and I saved some money vs. full MSRP on the S5.
I agree with the interior on the S5, its amazing, but my CS has the ext color center console and door handle area feature, which is nice.
Plus, a Porsche has always been my dream car since I was a wee lad.
