Cayman S v RS60 v 997 C2S

I picked up my new Boxster RS60 yesterday - gorgeous.

Before that I first owned a Cayman S, then a 911 C2S. Having driven all three, I'm pretty clear on my favourite...well at least the one that comes last and it might surprise you.

I won't go on about every last detail, just the things that marks one out from the other:

First up the Cayman S:

- The tighter chassis is immediately obvious compared to the RS60
- The looks - I think the Cayman is without doubt better looking from almost all angles than any of the 3. Only the 911 has it from the full rear view
- The practicality - a clear winner

The 911 C2S

- Iconic yes, but it really isn't as good looking. I didn't spend much time taking in the curves compared to the others
- The engine is very strong...in my opinion for non track use, too much. You constantly have to reign it back in instead of pushing it like the other two
- The sports exhaust is the most amazing sound and beats the 987 by a mile for the sound track. I really miss this aspect
- The cabin is a very special place...but getting back in the 987 reminded me how much I missed the forward view - the curve of the front wing is so much nicer than the flat 911
- The more you spend the more it depreciates and it did. I lost 17k in 12 months

RS60

- For me, the difference is fun and versatility of a soft top vs the tightness of the chassis and a better side profile of the Cayman
- The new exhaust is very nice. Nothing like as loud as I would have liked, but better than standard Cayman/Box
- 4k less on a standard Boxster S vs Cayman and have a soft top - well I wont go in to that debate, but it is nice to be able to drop the top
- If you have owned a Cayman and want a change the RS60 is perfect - so many unique touches.
- One of the reasons I got this car was because its limited edition and with the facelift coming I wanted something that might hold its value a little better than a standard BoxS. In any case, I don't actually like the facelift
- My Cayman was arctic, the 911 black and GT Silver on the RS60 is stunning. It seems to change hue depending on the light, darker to lighter. Love it! It's actually worth the money

Final verdict, well the 911 is last. Not as good looking, less sharp around corners and too expensive in all respects.

Second place. Tricky. The RS60 marks it out as something different, its got practicality, a soft top and a great engine - the Cayman is better looking.

Maybe the best way I can answer this is which car will I get next...a Cayman S!

Yes, must agree that GT silver is absolutely gorgeous. Saw one in a lighted parking lot. Dazling!

The 911 needs the GT3 aero package to look good; great actually

I actually went to the dealer a few months ago to buy an RS60 myself. They also had a pre-owned 2006 Boxster S with only 1800 miles on the clock with Porsche Certified warranty. I ended up buying the 2006 and love it. It is my second Boxster S (first was a 2000). It is definitely nice to drop the top. The Cayman S is the better track weapon; which I also enjoyed for a year. But, I've got too many track weapons in the garage already so got the Boxster. Oddly enough, I was a second a lap faster in the 2006 Boxster S (3.2L engine) than I was in the 2006 Cayman S... Go figure!

All are great cars, no doubt.

Just wish they'd sell a Cayman GT3 That would be the end-all track weapon!

Ive owned 8 varients of 911's after 99 they look lke an aerodynamic turd. I geuss I'm old fashion but the widebody and slantnose with the bug eyes I loved. And it took a little bit ti get used to the new headlights and the change in the facia. But my alltime fav was my 88 RUF 550bhp twin turbo you left 3rd doing 200. And it was like a sensual woman to look at ooh and hard to hold once you got her fired up. My slantnose Ruf had a little less HP but for the most part the rush and metal taste craking teeth from the adrenal rush my god what have I done. But these little Caymens to me are better looking better handeling than the new 911s well not all of them. My friend Pierse Ferrari broke down at the Reliant Fund raser $5.00 dollor hose %k repair getting to the hose. Let him make some runs in my CS he could not believe the feedback from the car and how quick it was bottom line he loved it.
