Strange that they pick the turbo version of both the Audi TT and the BMW 135i, to test against the standard, non 'S' version of the Porsche Cayman. The standard Cayman still won the comparison, and I agree completely with the writer that the standard Cayman is one of the most brilliantly balanced, everyday drivers ever made anywhere. Congrats to the standard Cayman!!

Nicely done to the Cayman - again!

They choose the 2.7 over the S purely because of price - for example - there would be no point comparing the M3 against the 430 Scuderia - although both arguably offer the sportiest of each manufacturers offerings.

The idea is to give a selection of cars within a limited (ish) budget range - well at least, that's how I interpret it

This is why I want one.

"The Porsche is involving, engaging and absorbing, and the sole car among this trio that informs you, at all times, of what it is doing."

To bad I drive a Audi.

Hmmm, the price quoted is for the S, but the other specs are for the non-S. Sigh ... Another under-informed automotive writer. You don't see too many base Caymans with 19" wheels, so maybe it was an S. Oh well, at least they reached the right conclusion!

no, it's a base cayman, not an "S" model. You can tell by the exhaust tip.

The 135 reminds me of a hyundai tiburon or something

I do like the latest version of the audi tt though!

Easy call on which is the winner

What a garbage review.

Sorry, as others have already said, why publish something when we
can't get a simple thing like the PRICE of the cars correct !?!?!?!?! Given
it colored the rest of the article so much, this one "small" error to me
negates the entire article.

Either the guy needs to rewrite a bunch of it, with the price info corrected...
Or he should rewrite the entire thing, testing a Cayman S vs the other two.

To me it's quite clear that since the Cayman won out anyhow, the Cayman S
would have changed the complextion of the article so much that he'd have
to start from scratch - since he went on about power so much.

Imagine what would have happened if he had a Cayman S with PASM to
test. Indeed.

It was an article written in the UK. The price quotes are for the UK but converted into USD for USA publication. Almost everything is much much cheaper in the USA, including Porsches. In the USA, a Porsche's MSRP price is actually LESS than what the Porsche employees in Germany pay with their famous special employee discounts.

I was aware that it is a UK article, and how lucky we are to get our p-cars "cheap" but the Cayman base price there is $72K (36220 GBP)!

Bodhi - I must respectfully disagree. The UK price for an S is 44.5k GBP if
I'm not mistaken - that's nigh on $US90k. Given, that's with VAT included,
so unless VAT is 50%, your assertion is not correct. Besides, the article
does not offer some number that is near the base price of the CS, it
quotes the exactly correct US base price for a CS - but the article is about
a C.

SCOPPOLA & Wayne, yeah, I agree with you guys. I originally thought that the writer probably just made a simple mistake on Cayman models, and was using the USA Cayman S price. But when I noticed it was a UK article, I just figured that the correct UK prices were lost in various conversion tables.

Irrespective of the pricing, are there people who would actually cross-shop a 135 to the Cayman? The Porsche is a sports car, and the Bimmer a very small two door sedan. To me, you would want one or the other, but never consider both.

I have to admit I've thought about checking out the 135...not b/c I'm bored of my CS or think it wo
