Video: Interstate race.

Here's an excellent demonstration of where the real power lies in a Cayman S. Race is from a roll in 2nd gear, at approximately 40 MPH. Camera car is a 2006 Mustang GT, the silver two door is a 2004 Pontiac GTO (six speed), and the car on the far outside is a 2006 WRX STi. The Cayman gets out-accelerated in the first few gears by the Mustang, then reels it on the top end, handily passing it and taking a final lead of about 25 car lengths. (Followed by the torque monster GTO) Final speeds were somewhere around 150 MPH.

You can put an eye out doing that.

Great video. I am surprised that the GTO didn't do better. Don't they have 6.0 engines?

Now I will sit down next to my friends and wait for the fireworks.

Where is the snack bar?

Find it hard to believe the Sti was so far behind....

I also find it impressive that the Cayman pulled it off in the end. The Mustang got quiet a jump.

All aero and small frontal area. I'm having a hard time thinking of any mfr that could get 171 mph out of 295 hp. Or is that 295 mph out of 171 hp?

Absolutely right, it's all in the drag coefficient.

Well it became obvious early in this race I suppose, because the STi was left in the dust by all.

I don't know what the Scooby's deal was...

Apparently he was just asleep at the wheel, or sending text messages when the third honk was blown. The 'Stang was legitimately fast, as evidenced later in a drag race versus a Mach 1. Quick up to around 110-120, then it hits a wall. Ironically enough, the Scooby driver later suggested a race on "curvy" roads, drawing a snort of derision from the Cayman pilot. Me thinks the WRX had a driver handicap in addition to its high curb weight and laggy power band. (It also lost to a Mach 1 earlier) The GTO did finish a solid second place, after its torque advantage and relatively clean shape came into play.
