New to all of this, I love the looks of the Cayman...don't need the space of the Cayenne though I do like the power, minus the fuel consumption. I'm told the Cayman will be powerful enough to enjoy...so, will try to get one as a loaner next week when my Cayenne is in for service. I was looking to find one with options including PASM, Sport Chrono, and Nav system...and having enough trouble finding the PASM and Sport Chrono together...much less with the Nav. One silly question...can a flat Electric Bass Guitar case fit in the rear storage area?...roughly 6in by 20in by 60 in? Silly question I know but I'm not home to measure the thing...have never had a close look at a Cayman, just hopeful the I'll hear a Yes as an answer,...even a Maybe will do for now. Either way I've heard alot of good things about the vehicle so far. THANKS!
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. I've fit a gig bag in the back of mine, not sure about a hard case. If I have to transport one of my basses in a hard case it usually goes in the floorboard/front passenger seat.
*update: I just tried a few basses out -- I fit a musicman 5 string case in there with no trouble, I fit a roscoe hard/soft case with no problems, and a regular old jazz bass case fit beautifully. The shape and size of the Musicman style case might make it a little rough on the interior, so depending on what kind of bass/case you are talking about, you may want to bring padding of some type. Also, you have to be careful not to scratch up the back of the car and the spoiler.

It has been posited that a small dog could also fit in the rear hatch area. In case you were wondering the cayman does not come with a sunroof but there are options: (DIY) Installing Sunroof on Cayman in 2min...
Chupacabra...Thanks for the info...this IS good news. One of my basses is an old Precision and the other larger is an AMPEG type double horned...thr larger of the two cases. Noe to finish things off...can the front compartment hold any type of amp? Even with bass in passenger seat, head in back...maybe smaller cab in front? RingSport...suprisingly enough I'm a veterinarian and DO on occasion transport animals...this is a kick!...How about performance, acceleration etc...what can I expect...I had a V6 Cayenne with a 6 sp manual, before the TT and it was pitifully underpowered.
I have both a Cayenne Turbo and a Cayman S. They couldn't be any more different in terms of feel for 99% of driving. But I will say that in a passing situation the Cayenne takes less brains and is at least as quick as the Cayman, probably quicker. Some of that is undoubtedly driver skill.... The Cayman is way more involving; the Cayenne is just silly when you remember how much mass you're pushing around at those speeds. So, in terms of handling, you'll be stunned by the Cayman's handling, especially when you learn to trust it. In terms of acceleration, they're reasonably comparable (check the stats, naysayers out there) but the Cayman's more fun to flog.
What should you really expect from a CS: A big, mouth-splitting grin!
The Cayman S should provide enough thrills in the performance arena for you. It's not the fastest car but it's certainly no slouch. It won't have that punch of the tt V8 but it does get up and go in the higher revs. A friend of mine has a Cayenne Turbo S that I drove for quite a while jumping from that on the street to my Cayman S on the track. I really like the Cayenne has an all purpose street vehicle and it's fast! I have a V8 Touareg with the air suspension big brembos, etc but it's lacking that huge punch. I'm about to get rid of it and I'm considering either the V10 tdi or a Cayenne turbo. See if you can get your dealer to loan you one for the weekend, it's the best way to decide on a car imo. I can't thank you enough for the replies...all very much appreciated...I'll get a loaner when I drop off my Cayenne and let you know how I make out. Ther Cayenne has ben tops from day 1. No complaints...just looking to enjoy driving and don't need the space...I appreciate what beautiful vehicles these are.
I have both. I use the Cayenne (2008), I love the CS (2007). The Cayenne tt is a tool, the CS is a toy. If I could only have one it would be the CS but I would be unhappy with any other SUV. Life is too short to drive cars you don't like. You have already absorbed a monster hit on the value of the Cayenne (if you bought it new), keep it and buy a CS unless you really don't need off road capability.
Ha, I read the thread topic and thought to myself... Man not another loony who wants to shoehorn some huge engine in a Cayman to get better acceleration...

Hi there, I had a play from around 20mph upto mid 4th gear with a Cayenne Turbo in my Cayman S, and whilst the cars were well matched, I was able to overtake and edge in front. I checked the power to weight on the Cayenne Turbo (444bhp with 2355kg = 194bhp/tonne vs Cayman S 219bhp/tonne) and when you consider the Cayenne has a power sapping autobox and 4wd, it's no surprise that the Cayman S was quicker. Obviously it's the torque of the TT lump that gives it great mid range punch, and power to weight with 2 cars which are so different isn't the perfect comparison, but it's still a good indicator. The new Cayenne with 500bhp has 213bhp/tonne and will probably be the same speed as a Cayman S I'd imagine (especially with the spread of torque with the TT setup), but the whole kick in the back will feel much different from a big capacity V8 TT in a 2355kg SUV, compared to a 3.4L flat 6 in a light sports car with a linear power delivery. The linear delivery doesnt feel exiting, but it's much better to modulate and drive to!

No problem, always eager to help out a fellow musician, especially a practitioner of the more rhythmic arts :-) As for amps, I doubt you will fit much of a cabinet in the front. Maybe a practice amp or very small combo, but even that would probably be a stretch. The passenger seat is most likely your only option here. I always take my Element if I'm hauling an amp or drum gear. There's certainly no hope for the latter in the CS!
Thanks again everyone. I especially enjoyed hearing from the Cayenne/Cayman owners...good to know your impressions. I have a 1993 928GTS, my first foray into anything sports car related...it was for fun only and now sits too much of the time so I'm selling it. I'll be going into a # of months of driving and working so...I'll either end up keeping the Cayenne or after test driving a CS, if I can arrange a great deal, try to get into a CS equipped as I'd mentioned. I can't bring myself to really put the 928 through what it can do...I worry about it being older, somewhat dated, and thought a CS with the latest in technology (under waranty)would be a possible daily driver. I'm not a fan of the 911 line but perhaps in the future...either way...I bought the CTT for its on and off road potential, and find myself on a farm road once a year at this point. I average 25k mi per year mostly highway. We'll see what happens...I do agree that you gotta love what you drive.
