First & foremost, it is the handling. As the mid-mount engine feels a lot better than the rear mount. It is a car that your average driver will be able to push to or close to the limit without much advance training. That's my reason. Have you driven the 2 to compare. B/f i bought my Cayman S, I test drove the 911, Boxster S & Cayman S.

Superior handling and balance. Plus, the Cayman has to be one of the most beautiful cars on the road today! Much prettier than any 911 I have ever seen
I enjoyed my last Boxster S, but after 3 years I only had 18K miles on it. When I drove the 997 (in '05) I had thought it was one of the *best* cars I had ever driven. The Cayman seems to retain all the great qualities of the 997, but also adds some of its own (ie mid-engine balance, better handling, true two seater, etc.) The only thing 'missing' is the sunroof... I would have considered the 987 Boxster S, but after having an '02 & '03,I didn't want yet another car that *looked* essentially the same.
I also have an '02 C4 Cab (for comparitive perspective purposes) and besides the interior upgrades in the newer Porsche, the other huge improvement is the suspension - they really got it right. Unfortunately, I won't have my new Cayman S until July - apparently it's in production at the moment...
Balance/Handeling and of course this is the sexiest car on the road, so that helps. When I look at the 911 I think. whats missing? Then I see the Cayman and I say, ahhh thats it, the rear end is a sculpture! I have always been as *** man when it came to the ladies, it figures it would be the same for cars.
<div>I'm probably your 'average' sports car driver. I've owned some great cars over the years, including some classics like the 289 AC cobra, and a great brute force 1967 427/435 Vette, and at least one of my cars has always been a sports car.</div>
<div>I went down to the dealer to purchase a 2005 Carrera with 6,000 miles on it.The dealer was nice enough to let me have the car for an extended test drive of a couple of hours, and as you might suspect, I loved it.It was flawless, and tight. There is no car like the Carrera.</div>
<div>Then he suggested I try the Cayman before I made my decision.I drove it for nearly an hour. When I reluctantly came back to the dealer, I handed over my wallet.</div>
<div>I think the Cayman is a more balanced ride, and as someone said, it lets your average driver get closer to the limits without ending up in the weeds.</div>
<div>Now that I’ve had my car for a month or so, I know I made the right decision. It is simply the best driving car I have ever had the pleasure to pilot, no exceptions.</div>

Just sold my beautiful CS, now the fun begins as I look for its open top replacement...
My searching started with the 911. I wanted a '04 or '05 coupe that I could buy in the mid $60's. I drove six 911 coupes and actually tried to do a deal on one of them but the dealer would not budge on price. I went to another dealer and drove a 911 coupe (took it home for the day). Took it back with the intention of buying it and my salesman said I should drive the Cayman S before I decide. It took less than 5 miles of driving to make my decision. # 1 reason was handling and # 2 was the look. Just look at those hips and you'll fall in love. I never regretted my decision for a moment.
here's my take: great looks and far less $ equally equipped....best bang for the buck. No compromise in speed ... its a Porsche... Maybe calling it a baby 911 would better describe it, definatley not a boxter with a roof, definately more muscular and smarter. Nice hips, extremely eye catching and sexy. Not of a GT. Very focused......A BOYS DREAM COME TRUE.....COCO
