SCCA pics

Went to my first ever SCCA event yesterday and what a great experience. Cayman Club member wpmjr raced his CS and I went along in spectator mode to take a few pics.

wpmjr (Bill) graciously offered to give me a ride on one of his laps. I was concerned about him carrying an extra 200 lbs but he calmed my fears and convinced me to ride along. Was my first track ride ... what a rush. Bill made his CS dance through the slaloms, dive through curves, and showed me a side of the Cayman I have never known possible. Not impressive only because it was my cherry pop, Bill can flat drive ... he won first place in his division (which included a C5 Z06) for the second consecutive time - Congrats!

CLICK HERE if you would like to see all the pics taken during the event. There were all kinds of folks racing, including a nice Vintage MG, fast older modded M3, S2000, EVO, STI, Miatas, even a Honda Fit. This pic of this modified Stang with one wheel a little in the air was my favorite non-Pcar shot.

What a great day!

I do some autocross but have not competed in my CS. SS on the side of Bills door stands for Super Stock...but what is the "x"?

Nice shots!

Looks like a beautiful autocross track, the pavement is nice and smooth, not what we are used to in the Northeast. The parking lots we tend to have access to are usually small and full of potholes and cracks.

Thanks for all the great pics, John. The car has been great in these first two autocrosses- I am still sorting it out, but it is already competing extremely well. I encourage everyone to go out and race solo. The worst thing you can do to your car or yourself is have to rub off cone marks- and they do come off!

The X is for pax class, or a handicapped class all cars can compete in. The handicap is based on your base class, so I am in XSS for pax.

That lot is about two years old.

Just wait till you do a Drivers Ed! Ride shotgun with your instructor in the instructor run group. I'll guarantee you'll pucker )*( up!

Autocross is great! I've never seen a good autocrosser do poorly at the track, but I've seen track junkies who suck at autocross.
