Toe In Or Toe Out?

I installed a set of JIC cross coilovers recently. My mechanic, who is a very succesful porsche racer (911) recommended toe out on the fronts. He said toe in is better for front drivers to offset torque steer but toe out on the front of my CS will help with initial turn in on the track.

im confused...i have always been under the impression that toe in is a better competitive set up. any help?

Current set up is

-1.0 camber on the fronts
slight toe out
1.5 caster
rear toe in

A small amount of toe out in the front will help turn in, while the small amount of toe in in the rear will keep the rear tamed down a bit. On any car where you can adjust the shocks I'd keep those amounts pretty small, though, and adjust shocks from there if you have balance issues. Once you have driven it a lot and feel VERY comfortable with it you can then decide if you want to make further alignment changes.

I am running pretty much zero toe in front since I think that th ecar turns in pretty well as is but run just a touch of toe out in the rear to help rotate the car. Caveat: when the rear is loaded, the suspension toe's out somewhat so don't over do it in back or you might find yourself looking out the side window at the track!
I have -1.5 degrees camber in the front and -2.0 degrees camber in the rear.
Hope this helps.

Also, a FWD car will benefit from toe out in the rear to help it rotate (lift throttle) in tight corner. When I was racing a FWD car in AutoX, I would toe out the front as well for sharp turn in.
Good luck.

so it looks like you had a slight toe OUT in the front and the rear, or does negative denote toe IN?

It's really only a small amount and I have had no trouble at all thus far...I think it's like 1/16th of an inch total.
