Mantisport at LRP

I saw the Mantis crew at Lime Rock today, in the rain. Their Cayman S looked great but it looked like they had a difficult time putting the power down to the track. I was flagging at turn 9 and you could see they just couldn't get the traction exiting the corner. Too much power. Can't wait for tomorrow when hopefully the track will be dry. I plan on getting some pictures tomorrow to post.

I had a chance to talk with Earnie at LRP on Thursday. Heck of a nice guy. In his practice (DE) run group I timed him turning low 1:03s. I don't know if he had the car set up for LRP at that point. He had an interesting re-breather in the trunk to try to deal with the ongoing blow-by issues. I teased him that it looked like NOX in diguise. He obviously likes to tinker. The rest of the crew were very friendly - no stuff shirts in that gang.

Ernie won his sprint race today and was doing well in the 1 hour endurance race until he was hit by another car. Reg's required him to pit to have his car inspected and the race was over before he could get back out so I guess he got a "DNF". I wasn't able to talk to him after the race for the details, maybe he can fill us in when he gets back online.

I did take some pictures of Ernie and his car in the pits as well as a number from turn 3 where I was flagging. His car looks and sounds real strong and its the only Cayman that was racing in the Porsche Cup racing this year at LRP. The Cayman looked as strong in its class as the GT3's (farnbacher/Loles mostly) did in theirs.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I can get them downloaded and processed.

I have attached 5 images, in the first you can see Ernie under the tent behind his car watching his crew change tires on his car. The last image I included to show the pace car which is a Cayman S. Unfortunately one picture I got of the start of the sprint race turned out blurry, the pole postion car spun going into turn one at the start of race and cars were going everywhere to avoid hitting him. You can see Ernie made it through ok and you can barely make out the first car pointing in the wrong direction with tire smoke and cars all around him. It would have been a million dollar picture if it was sharp.

I forgot to mention Ernie also won the sprint race yesterday and I don't know how he placed in the endurance race on Friday.

Nice shots!

I just got back from Lime Rock with a bunch of photos of the Mantisport Cayman.

Unfortunately I must have hit every accident and construction zone between Staten Island and Lime Rock today. I spent close to 8 hours in the car and I'm exhausted!

Ernie - Great to meet you today and congratulations on the race win!
Stan - Sorry I didn't meet you. Next time...

Now, if you could only shed 500 lbs you would be all over those 964 cup cars!

For those that don't know, Ernie finished first in D class and 7th overall in the race group, behind six 964 cup cars.

Great race to watch today. lots of excitement, start to finish.

Hey PP13,

I was there too with the whole family actually. Was very impressed with Earnie in the endurance race. He was holding his own against some of those massively race prepped GT3s. The FL cars were AWESOME though.

Did anyone else take Route 7 home? What a drive!
