First post here, I am a regular on RL (I have a 964). Anyways, I saw a 2.7 today in traffic and it got me thinking. Has anyone got a very low optioned 2.7 setup for the track? It seems like if I were to buy a Cayman I would get as little options as possible because I am going to rip out the seats, sound deadening, speakers, suspension etc anyways. Throw on Motons, Recaro's, etc. I am thinking power/weight/cost ratio.
I guess for bang for the buck, spec boxster 2.5 would be better.

Save yourself the trouble and just get an Atom. Seriously. Sounds like you want a semi-dedicated track car.
kenny,
if you want a track machine and not gut your 964.
get used elise, much better buy and the consumable ratio is 4:1 in lotus' favor compared to cayman. a set of pads (that's all four corners) = 260 after tax!. i put 1700 miles on my RA1, usually they die after 1200 on cayman. and i still have at least another 800 miles to go before those RA1 need replacing. btw RA1 for loti = 660/set of four.
but if you want a dual purpose car, cayman is much better. and i would go with "S".
aerial atom needs a lot more work. out of the box it's not a good track car, let's just leave it at that so i dont get crucified by atom owners. they are fast for sure.
if bang for the buck is the thing, NOTHING beats spec miata. i got two buddies who races 996gt3 cup cars, they also race spec miata. that tell you somthing.
bottom line, if you want a dual purpose car, you can buy whatever you like. if you want a dedicated track car, the real question is HOW MUCH does it cost to RUN. the purchase price is nothing compared to running cost (i say that b/c you can always get some money back when u sell the car, a $100k car isn't really $100k, you drive it for 5 years, sell it for $50k. it's really only a $50k car... i know i know. i am overly simplifying this, but you get the idea) consumable like tires/pads, once you used them up, they are gone you can't sell the remains...
I have a 2.7 track car. I choose his car without money as the prime reason but I really wanted to learn this year to Drive. I had a gt3 track car last year and while it was amazing it was a better car than the driver. This year my mistakes are much more obvious to me as it cause the car to slow down a whole lot. Maybe next season I will switch to a CS but now it is very nice to watch 911 move over for the little baby brother. besides base car seat wheel harnesses and pads sub 60 grand is always nice

I must have worded my post poorly. I am not really interested in figuring out what is the best track car. My 964 is already mostly gutted and track prepped. This was more of an observation and question on my part about the 2.7.
Thus, a Cayman 2.7 would have to weigh 2450lbs to have the equiv power. More likely, increase the HP by 15hp (possible?) and then have to get to 2600lbs to equiv power/weight of the CS.
I am sure you could find some more stuff to upgrade/remove and some of it would be done anyways.
I guess my premise is that a stripper 2.7 is not a turd and since it's likely cheaper by more than 10k, it's a good value if you know ahead of time your going to hit the track with it.
All that said, do the same power/weight/cost comparison with a 2.5 boxster, and it blows both of them away.
Just curious, and I was hoping for everyone to comment on the 2.7 v CS not on other cars.
