I have included a picture of a bunch of Cayman Club members that attended the DE event this last Friday and Saturday at Lime Rock.
From left to right is Mark S.(Don't remember is Cayman CLub name) who drove a white CS in the green run group
Next is Jean Pierre, BankerBiker, who drove his CS in the yellow run group. Jean Pierre was cleared to solo from here on out and was one of the fastest in the yellow run group. Thats his Cayman in the background with the #450 on the door.
Next is Joel, Joel-CS, and thats his Cayman we are all posed in front of. Joel is in the black run group and is one of the faster Prosches on the track, (in my opinion) He's right there with the GT3's
Last is me Jay, Jayman, and I am also in the yellow run group and hoped to get signed off like Jean Pierre but it was a pretty crowded event and my instructor could not find a free instructor to ride with me on Saturday but I was able to solo for several session on both days.
Also there but I was not able to get a picture as they had just called his run group was Mark, Morefun, Mark is in the white run group and was looking to get moved up to black on Saturday. I didn't see him before I left so I don't know if he was successful.
Saturday was sweltering, in the mid 90F's and high humditiy. I had a pretty good headache from the sun and heat so I blew off my last track session and headed home for a jump in the pool.
There were two additional Caymans there but I didn't get a chance to talk to the owners to see if they were members.
great pic!! MetroNY will be up at Lime Sept 7&8... definately blowing off work that weekend and going up.... from now on no more real estate on P-car event days... and thats final!
someone else (zebb...) posted yesterday of some super fast caymans up there... must have been you!!
hope you'll join us in September.

Jayman - thanks for posting the picture. Had a ton of fun and it was great to see so many Caymans at the track. We ae starting to be a force! (Now maybe they will give us an actual classification during registration, instead of just "other" ).
In addition to the 5 (maybe 6 or 7) Caymans on track, there were a number floating around watching. If you are reading, hope you guys come and join in the fun next time!
My instructor who is a GT3 owner, was very impressed with the Cayman, "Especially" he said, "Since the motor is in the wrong place." I informed him it was about time Porsche figured out the motor don't belong in the trunk.
You can't fool us, "Jay". Everybody here knows the guy kneeling at the right of the photo is Nigel Mansell.
By the way, when are you going to make it down here to VIR?
Hey, Nigel was my hero for many years....I followed his career right to the end of his open wheel racing. Even saw him race at NHIS. I still have my "Nigel Mansell" T shirt, it don't fit anymore, but I still have it........
I'm thinking of VIR for next year. One new track a year for me. This year Mont Tremblant, next year VIR.
Jean Pierre...good call on the black shirt and pants on 95+ degree track day in August....yipes!
Now that LRP is "private", were there any operational differences? Esp. on a weekend, I'd assume the members would hold out at least 1-2 session for themselves? At least that's the model that Skip Barber was talking about in an interview last month. It's funny, he specifically said that "groups like PCA will suffer a bit, since we'll be reserving a certain amount of track time each day for our members."
But the good news is that if they really do sell a lot of those $100k memberships, they'll finally be able to tear up the track surface and repave it properly for the first time in just about forever.

It is not a "club" as of yet, so no changes noticed. It would start in 2008. Personally, I don't think there is any chance that it will happen. Their largest base of potential members (people like us) think they are crazy... Only time will tell.
Thanks for making the effort to get the gang together. Sorry that I didn't get hooked with you guys on time. Got my first instructor sign off for Black, but I was busy trying to chase down the second instructor necessary so I could wrap it up! Unfortunately instructor # two was a no show, so I have to go to the next CVR event to complete the process. Oh well annother day at the track! Hey it was was hotter than you know what but it was great two days!
Morefun, the samething happened to me, my instructor wanted to sign off on my but we couldn't come up with a second instructor. SOoo I have registered for the Sept event on 9/14 and 15. Hopefully they aren't sold out yet and I can get signed off to solo with Jean Pierre.
I have been doing only 2 to 3 events a year so they are spaced out time wise quite a ways. My first two sessions on the track this last weekend was just like I was there for the first time, I didn't settle down and get into the "groove" until mid day on Friday and that left only Saturday for making any progress. My wife suggested I go back in Sept ( what a lady) and my progress should be greater. Maybe I can keep up with Jean Pierre or even pass him.. Jean Pierre made a huge step forward in speed from last Nov and it has to be attributed to track time which he has gotten a lot more of since Nov while I have had none.
As far as LRP going the club route, who knows but I wouldn't bet the farm on it. WHen you look at other tracks in the area and the money they put into up keep and improvements and then you look at LRP, NOTHING. Look at little things, but important, like the rumble strips in the turn before the up hill, its missing or pushed way back right at the apex and then juts out into the track after the apex. It looks like a curb that got hit by a snowplow while clearing a parking lot and this is typical of the whole track. Not that I have the cash to buy a membership but I wouldn't even entertain it until the track was restored to what a track should be. The SCCA has started the process of building a 2+ mile track in Palmer, Ma., they have the permits and the blessing of the town and are now looking for funding(as of 5 months ago). If this track gets built it will really put a hurting on old Skip Barber unless he sells LRP before before it falls.
More pressure will be coming from the new NJ circuit, scheduled to open June, 2008. The NJ chapter of BMWCCA has already sent out strong vibes that they won't be back to LRP next year for their club race, etc., as a result. Too bad. More track = more choices = more variety = more fun.

the new Nj track is going to be great and will be open next summer no need to pay to much for low quality track with stupidily low noise restrictions. see new track online at Thunderbolt Raceway - New Jersey Motorsports Park
