Toyo RA-1 Tire Pressure?

Doing my first track day in my new CS at Mosport tomorrow.I have a fair amount of experience with 25 days in last 2 years on various tracks including this one.Have never used R compound tires before.Just installed Toyo RA-1s yesterday and took it for a highway run ,pressure afterwards was in the mid 40's and of course it felt squirrely.Did not shave tires. Where should I start on cold tire pressure as I will drive 90 minutes to the track? Also, what should be my target hot pressure on the track? Any advice appreciated.

Cool. I bet you are going to 6th gear. They run an awesome event. Stay behind for the bbq lamb chop after 5.

I start with 33 Front, 35 Rear cold (shaved tires) and adjust the pressure after each session. My target is 38 front and 40 rear hot.

Since your RA1 is not shaved, it would generate more heat, probably you might want to run a few PSI lower than mine.

Did you put some negative camber on the front? RA1 loves it.

Your first day on unshaved RA1's will feel terrible. Don't lose faith. Keep driving. By the second day they will feel normal, and they just get better and better after that all the way down to the cord. Run whatever cold pressures you need in order to keep your hot pressures no higher than 40psi (anywhere between 35 - 38 hot works fine for me). If it's a hot day, you may need to start with cold pressures of around 28psi to achieve this.

Obviously, pump them back up to 33 psi (cold) before driving home on the freeway.

Have fun!

What sizes are you guys running?

Dedicated rims, or do you swap them for the track?

Just curious.

I ran Toyos on my e36 but was thinking my first DE in the Cayman might be better on stocks..........but otoh I am itching to go Toyos since I will be running in the advanced group (where almost everyone is on race compounds).

I have had the best results with 35lbs hot.
new RA1's are very squirmy....I have tried them at 40psi hot and had less traction and feel.

You may be pleasently surprised by the stock PS2's. They seem to get better after a few heat cycles on the track and are not that far off in feel from the Toyos on an E36 M3. Felt best at 38 hot front and rear. Your low pressure warning will go on after they have cooled between sessions.
The Toyos in my experience like 37-38 hot, at 40 they start to feel greasy about half way through a session (instructor group).
hope that helps,
Tom

Q
I agree with the pressure recommendations, 40 should be the max hot track pressure.

If the car sat in the garage at the track overnight, I start out the first session at 28, If I drove to the track, I set it at 30.

Immediately after each session I check them and if necessary reduce the pressure down to 36 to 38, to have them ready for the next session as the day heats up.

If I decide to drive the car back to the house, I bump them up about 5 pounds after my last sesson for the ride home.

The next morning I re-set them to 34 cold for the street.
