Pagid brake pads - fitting question

Hi all,

just recently I attempted to swap my stock front pads for Pagid Oranges in preparation for a track day. I expected the Pagids to be more "meaty" than stock, but it seems like they are TOO thick. I ended up putting my stock pads back on because I didn't want to try and JAM the new pads into place -- there was no way I could see them easily sliding into the caliper. If I did manage to stuff the pads in there, it would basically be right up against the rotor and the pistons wouldn't really have any travel because they're pressed all the way back.

I'm a noob at changing brake pads, so is this what I should expect from aftermarket pads?

any info is appreciated.

my yellows were the same way. the pagid website says to file the edges to 45 degrees when the rotors are not new. i did have to use light hammering and i had to really make sure i pushed the calipers (or whatever) completely open. i think once you bed them as the website states you will be fine. i liked having them thick. they last longer and you do not have depress the brake pedal far to stop.

I, too, had the same issue when installing my Pagid yellows. They were thick and beefy and it was a little bit of an effort to get them in. You first need to be certain you have opened up the caliper as widely as possible. Even then, I still needed to tap a couple of the pads with a hammer to get them started. Once you get the pad started it tends to slide in pretty easily. I did not file the edges.

BTW, I coudn't be happier with my yellows. I am running them as an everyday pad with no problems whatsoever. I had some squeal when the new pads went on the old rotors but after bedding them in at my first track event I haven't had a problem since. Keep in mind I live in Boston and I have not had to drive them in cold weather yet. I assume the yellows will not work so well once the weather gets colder. I am going to my last track event this weekend and if they seem to be a problem as the weather gets cooler, I may take the Pagids off the car until spring.

Filing the outside edge of the pads is just to avoid contact with any lip in the rotors from wear. The key is to make sure the pistons are pushed all the way into the calipers. If you want a hair more clearance, remove the anti-squeal plate from the calipers, although my yellows went in without any problems with the plate still installed.

I have used Pagid Oranges for my 2.7 for track days... and the swap out is totally easy. I retain the front brake metal shim since the Pagid pads fit without removing it. The only advice is that you really do need to push the pistons completely back into the caliper... doing this allowed brand new Pagid Oranges to go into place with clearance.

Just to make sure.. the 2.7 pads are not the same as the CS pads... so make sure you have the correct pads for your car.

Correct - the fronts are different, the rears identical.
