Just for laughs I put my modified CS against Johannes van Overbeek's GT3RS is a side-by-side video at Thunderhill in CA. He still beats the CS by a couple seconds (2:02.5 vs 2:04.3) even though i take a shortcut (the bypass vs him going over the top). Oh ya and he didn't have decent camber or a harness. But the CS does seem to do OK in the corners.
Fun video, you know what is funny is that the GT3RS sounds a lot faster but when you put them side by side like that you see that it really isn't that much faster although of course drivers make a difference. Look at how much he has to fight the GT3RS to keep it on line at times whereas the Cayman just goes where it is supposed to. BTW you need to work on your hand work.
nice driving dave.
i saw your exhaust at TC. man, you are driving too hard ;-)
btw, van overbeek is doing like 5/10. how i know? i did 2:02 with cyclone before in my RS. i know i am not as fast as johannes. in fact, at one of the HOD event at TH, he was immediately ahead of me. dumped me after .75 laps
can you repost the video.. when I tried to load, got a message that it was no longer available. I'm particularly initerested in the Cayman S at Thunderhill since I did a trackday there a month ago with by Cayman 2.7.
thanks. D&D
Guys, let's be honest about this. These drivers developed poor hand placement skills because; as adolescents, they spent too much time trying to drive their second or third hand-junkers with one hand on the steering wheel, while trying to grope their date with the other. All too typical a scenario, and results in transfer of poor, overlearned kinestetic/tactile hand movemets when trying to learn proper racing technique.

Hi Mooty, yeah that milltek exhaust just collapsed. oh well, it's warrantied. You got to drive behind Johannes? that must have been fun. Whole different level I'm sure.
Thanks folks for the tips on the hand work - will give that some thought. Like LA Boy said between the date groping (and cigarette holding, radio channel changing, burger munching, and middle finger giving) who has time to learn race technique
The December issue of Excellence magazine has an article by Johannes van Overbeek in which he tests a GT3RSR and a GT3RS, side by side at Thunderhill. While Johannes was polite, he did have some criticisms regarding the set-up of the RS. One of his bigger complaints had to do with the tire pressure and its effect on the predictability of handling in the corners. I can well imagine that this might have something to do with his apparent struggle in the corners.
The article, as whole, is well worth reading - a really clear explanation of some of the differences between a race car and a street legal car for the track.

thanks... the video's running well now! I'm not certain about your "hand work", but for my first time at Thunderhill, I tried to ride the bumps and straighen out the chicane for the back straight -- and got a furrled black flag for my effort! You did it, at least, two laps in a row!@
That was awesome. I agree with Kmans, the GT3 pilot is putting a lot more effort into hustling it around the track. I think all the tire squealing is off the GT3 as well.
Silly 911 owners.
at higher speed, it's hard to keep the RS at the inside line or apex. thus johannes had to hustle it a bit. but his hands are still very very quiet.
nice video, I agree with kman, your hand location on the wheel at times was a little suspect and you need to shift faster and get your hand back on the wheel.
