Hi All,
It's time to talk roll bar again. I spoke with Rick White at Autopower Performance Driving Equipment. Autopower Industries
He said that if someone brings him a Cayman S for about a week, he will build a bolt in roll bar and this lucky person will get his free. The others will be under $500.00. If I lived near San Diego, I would do it, but Miami is a bit too far for me.
This would be the Race Roll Bar with harness bar pictured below.
Damn, I'm also in Miami. Under $500 though? Hell, I'd probably rather pay the five hundred and let them figure it out on someone else's car. That's a great deal. I know a lot of BMW guys have been happy with their products.
Well, I'm hoping someone on the west coast will do it, so we can have a well made affordable roll bar for the Cayman. All the other options are over $1500.00 plus. I hope someone steps up and gets a free roll bar!

post this to the Zone 7 and Zone 8 forums - you may get a bite there...

Let me know what you think out there.
I am in Norcal...more than 1000 miles round trip...
What is the thought on having a rollbar of this type in a street car? Doesn't it make it MORE dangerous in an accident for un-helmeted occupants?
This is the Competition Forum, lots of us track the cars more than drive them on the street. I don't think a roll bar will make it more dangerous for occupants if they are strapped in. A good roll bar besides the obvious in a roll over situation, is also like an adjustable frame component that stiffens the frame for better handling.

If the roolbar is placed so that your head could make contact with it in a collision, I definitely think it is more dangerous. Also it could interfere with the airbags deploying.

It would be nice to have a relatively inexpensive, bolt-in rollbar (that you can take out for the street) to use for track events, rather than just a harness bar, if you are using racing harnesses and seats.
I can't believe there isn't someone in San Diego who can give up their car for a week for a free roll-bar - they could even sell it if they don't want/need one!
This rollbar is exactly what I would like to install in my car before the next track season starts. I question its quality though since its priced around 2/3 less than others on the market.

I question the others prices being 2/3 more than this one. Are they that much better than this one ? This might not be a stainless steel or brushed metal finish but as long as it's well made to fit, give you an attachment bar for your harness and keep the passenger compartment safer in event of an accident, then it gets my vote or money. I'll buy one.
