My first day on a track with my 3.4 was on Monday at Laguna Seca. Beautiful day. First of all, let me say that the extra 50HP is greatly appreciated out on the track. I take back any earlier statements to the contrary. This was the first time I have really used the full power potential of the car as it was being broken in until now. The day was a private event sponsored by a financial firm and basically it was an "all you can drive" day. Unbelieveable.
Once again, Mooty was there and I didn't get a chance to really talk to him. My brother talked to him a bit. I think he had a sound check issue with his stock exhaust. Hopefully we can grab a bottle of water together next time.
Out on the track I was surprised to be keeping up with Mooty. Only it wasn't Mooty....just another GT3RS....lol.
My best lap was a 1:49, and I was not pushing hard at all. Very little tire wear. My brother ran a 1:36 (I think) in his Cobalt Monster. A couple of funny clips are below highlighting the HP difference between a stock S and a 997TT EVOMS 690R.
My brakes seem to need a firmer pedal now. Do I need to change my fluid? I think I need to upload a beefier version of the video...

the other orange RS was brad's car.
yes, it was nice chatting with your brother, who's name i already forgot. i am really pathetic with names, forgive me. but i am good at linking faces with cars. did he pull 1:46 or 1:36? if 1:36, he did some fantastic time. i can only run 141 in the RS at LS.
if you plan to change brk fluid, get motul 600.
95.4 db was the verdict. that's with air box muffled and turn down pipes.

I know he ran a 1:42 for sure. The 1:36 could have been our friend Chris H. in the sliver 996TT with the hilarious left-bending exhaust extenders that allowed him to pass sound. I can't remember if it was his 1:36. My brother is a Chris, also. There was a guy out there who is a race car driver that took the 996TT out and ran even faster. He was passing without any wave-bys and freaking out folks on the track. he was walking around in a black racing suit. Scott something? I have to get the times straight.
Thanks for the Motul tip. I need to get one of those one-man bleeder things. I was the guy in the red "Cayman GT" with the CF wing. Only Cayman out there. I ran between 1:49 and 1:53 when traffic permitted, and I am nowhere near the potential of the car in stock trim. 1:57 was my best in the 2.7 and this was my third time at Laguna.
I know he ran a 1:42 for sure.

EXCELLENT time.

i saw that car.
i also had similar set up but no go for me ugh....
i had to lift, get into 4th, coast up the hill and move left to pass sound.
i know you got the red GT cayman. i only saw the car, but didn't see you.
you can get the car to 1:43 with good tires and pss9.
Dave
What pads are you running? If stock, that's your problem. They suck for the track, but, of course, only if you use them.
I've had good success with Pagid yellows all around. Made a huge difference in pedal feel, no more fade and excellent wear.
Good you're finally figuring out the differences between the C and CS on the track.
I should clarify. I am running stock pads. I ran stock pads in my 2.7 for all but one of the 20 plus track days I did in the car. After my day at Laguna on Monday, I drove to SF for work and left the car parked for a day. When I drove home, I noticed right away that the brakes require a firmer push to get the desired result. I never noticed this in my 2.7, and I am wondering if I "boiled my fluid"?? I haven't had a chance to visually inspect the pads, but based upon my experience it isn't the pads themselves.
I guess the unbelievable acceleration of my brother's car in the video clips isn't as impressive as it is in person. Going up toward the corkscrew I am at WOT and he is leaving me at a standstill.
I know he ran a 1:42 for sure.

Well, I'm not so sure. Chris H in the 996TT ran 1:42, and was A LOT faster than me. I never got my GPS working, but I suspect I was at least 4-5 seconds off his pace.
Is this where I point out that I was running 1:45's in an NC Miata (MX-5 Cup)? The fastest guys were in the 1:42's occasionally, but they were dropping wheels off a *lot* to do that (which does get you yelled at during Pro races at LS, but it doesn't stop anyone in qualifying, at least).
That was my only race weekend at LS, but I will be back. We were on Toyo RA-1's that weekend, so I'm guessing I had a distinct tire advantage. But still, you guys got mad power over a measely little Miata with a stock drivetrain.
cay s on ra1 i did 142. so i think if i didn't have to short shift, lift and way off line at T6 to pass sound, it should be below 140 is my guess. but until i get a chance to do it, i can't proclaim that's my lap time just yet ;-)
