Hoosiers are great track tires...excellent ultimate gription...but they don't last very long...
So I've heard... the fella I'm talking to about them is telling me if I'll invest in the probe pyrometer, get the alignment right, I can prolong their life. I know they won't last as long as my Toyos did but I'm thinking about trying them. Would you go with the wider rears?
Thanks for your reply. Love the yellow lab avatar! Labs & Caymans...only true loves that won't break your heart or ever leave you.

Make sure that your local/national competition rules allow the wider tire. Here in PCA Zone 8 the Cayman S is required to take a point hit for anything wider than 265 (stock). A 275 width tire is 2 points.

This is my first year driving competitvely - AX, time trials, and DEs. I want to move up through the ranks in DEs, learning & improving my driving skills. Eventually want to club race. So, my question is... what competition rules are your referring to? I did fill out a spreadsheet that put my car in Class 7 for AX & time trials. I'm in Zone 5 with the PCA Maverick Region (Dallas area).

I am referencing the PCA Zone 8 AX and Time Trial GCRs. Out here in Zone 8 the CS runs in class N.
A street stock Cayman S in NS/S is only allowed 2 points.
A stock class Cayman S in NS is allowed 8 points
A prepared class Cayman S in NP is allowed 13 points
You can certainly run the wider tires, but you just need to decide where to use your points.
In contrast, the Porsche Owners Club (POC) limits wheel width rather than tire size, so running the 275 is no problem unless you plan to run with both organizations. This is an issue for me currently.
It is best that you read the rules for the organization you frequent as they are not all the same.
Cheers,

Agreed, Labs are great, and machines can't love you back; but don't tell me, M, you've lost your pit crew???

Gee you're next door. Caygirl, you should come up to Oklahoma City for an SCCA AX sometime- I'd love to have another CS. I should come south, too.
I started using Hoosier A6's for AX, and there is nothing else...
