Looking to take my Cayman S out on the track to a driver training. It is NOT a speed competition or a wheel to wheel competition. I will have an instructor with me the entire time. I called my insurance company and they do not cover anytime the car is on the track. Does anyone have any idea of some alternatives to ensure the car is covered? I know i can buy some track coverage that handles multiple visits to a track - 20+ visits, but that is not something i am ready to do yet since I am not sure how into the track I will get.
Hey Evan - As far as I know, there are a few companies that sell track-day only insurance - you might check Porsche Panorama, the PCA magazine and/or Excellence magazine for advertisements.
Most people self-insure in my experience... it definitely keeps you within your personal ability envelope.

I haven't ever used or contacted them, so no personal knowledge or experience.
There was an incident at the last local (to me) PCA event in September during one of the HPDE sessions. The off track excursion rolled the car some (depending on who tells the tale) 3 to 5 times, pretty well totaling a very nice 40th Anniversary Edition 996. So .... unfortunately bad things do happen to good people.

Based on their Coverage Estimate Calculator my annual premium for HPDE events would be $1600, with a $2-3K deductible. If I do 8 track weekends during the year, that would work out to $200 per weekend . . . hmmm, have to think about it.
There used to be a tiered approach to these plans where the tiers were split between < 20 and > 20 days per year. The < 20 was much more economical, but I can't find it offered anymore. All of the insurance vendors seem to be in the $1600 range now.

I use Snellings Walters. Snellings Walters Insurance Agency - Home. They originated the business that has now moved over to Prosure. Agree you should check out Rennlist for LOTS of discussion on this topic.
One option if you do fewer days is Laurel DE. They have premiums based on the number of days on track.
I am in the middle of a claim now, so I will let everyone know how it goes...
Go to Rennlist.org and do a search in the Racing/DE forum. There is LOTS of discussion on this topic.............
BTW - USAA does not cover DEs as of 12/06, read your policy exclusions.........
Wow, after reading some of the posts on Rennlist it's pretty clear what you don't want to do, and that is file a claim with your regular auto insurance company even if they will cover it - a lot of people had their policy cancelled by their company after the claim was paid.
If you can't afford to write it off yourself, it sounds like you better sign up with one of the specialty insurers.

KS-CS, you need to amortize the cost - do more track days.......
