Best trailer to take Cayman to track

Any advice or sources of a nice new or used lightweight open trailer for my Cayman? I like the trailers that have the tire rack up front. Also a manual winch would be nice in case I have a track break down and need to get the car back on the trailer. I have a tow vehicle already but have never investigated trailers before since I have always tracked BMW's with enough interior room for wheels and gear. Thanks

I have been investigating the same thing for a month or two. There are several companies that produce open car haulers e.g. Trailers for Less or do a google search. I haven't found too many that sell new trailers with a tire rack or winch already mounted, but some of these companies will custom install whatever you want, or you can take it to a local welding shop and have something like that added. You also might check to see if you have a local trailer dealer in your yellow pages who might be able to help you.

As for finding used trailers that meet your specs, it is largely a matter of luck; I have been keeping an eye on the back pages of Sports Car (SCCA mag) and Panorama for ads, as well as checking online sites. I'm sure you might eventually find what your looking for, but it might take a while to find one for sale close to you.

this is an easy answer. What i think to be the best open trailer is also a PCA sponser and works closely with you to get the right one. With almost unlimited accessories you can just what you need.

Trailex makes decent stuff, but I prefer the Aluminum Trailer Company trailers. They make great stuff. There's a dealer out of West Virginia that has good deals on open deck ATC trailers on eBay fairly often.

+1 for Trailex for both open and enclosed lightweight trailers.

Does UHaul or a similar service have an open car trailer that can be rented? I am leaning towards trying to rent one when I need one instead of owning one. Have not done the math to see how many track events you would need to attend to justify owning vs. renting, but only plan on doing a few each year. Until I get much more experienced, I would likely just drive to the track (about 30 minutes from my home) and use my street tires.

I know you said open trailer, but you might want to think it over first...as I went that route, as do most, then had to bite the bullet and change over to an enclosed. You're in VA which actually has a winter, so if you're like me you might not have a garage for the track car, only for your two daily drivers. Plus, an enclosed protects the car to and from the event, and it's perfect for storing all the gear...so even a confused old fart like me can't forget anything! Plus, tires don't get a ton of ultra violet sitting on the outside tire rack, you'll make LOTS of new friends next time a rain storm hits the next event...etc., etc....the list goes on and on...

I bought a 6 month old enclosed for $3,900., then put in cabinets and a tire rack myself.

i have an open steel trailer that I got from conn. trailers, it was $3000 and I had the welders at my shop put on a tire rack and a trailer box. An enclosed trailer takes up more space and you need a bigger vehicle to to tow it.
