My CS Race Car Build!

Well, I've taken the leap. My CS is at "the point of no return" - I am building a dedicated race car

I have been tracking the CS extensively for the past 2 years (7,500 track miles) and I am planning to start club racing next year with PCA and NASA. Soooo, the build is underway. If everyone is interested, I will post with my progress.

Stage 1 - prep for the fabricator. Pictures below show the car gutted. The interior weighs more than I expected. I am guessing at least 200 lbs. The door panels alone were 30 lbs each! After a few mods (lightweight flywheel, oil cooler) it will be off to get a custom welded cage (the roll bar you see in the pics will need to come out)

Side Question/Poll: What should I get for a front bumper?

Let me know what you think!

oh oh naked car porn!!

Thanks for sharing. Mine is at the cage builder now but i did not go as far as you. I left the glass and window equipment in the doors. I am going to put everything back in after he is finished. It is a huge undertaking to strip it like that and get it back to pca "stock" configuration.

What class are you going to run it in?

I spy a Sand Beige interior. If it happened to be full leather, I'd be interested in taking some of those parts off your hand.

Hey Joel, do you plan on repainting the CS if so any idea on a paint color and scheme yet? Is your CS at F/L ?

Is your roll bar bolt in and if so does it have a new home yet??

Don't forget I'll be available to assist you when your racing in this area. I'm really getting exited to see you pick up where Mantis left off.

I will run PCA stock class. The only part going back in is the dash. The rest will stay out, as it is "necessary" to take out because it interferes with the roll cage . PCA is finally allowing significantly removed interior in stock class, including the headliner now. The fabricator wanted the dash out in order to properly weld the knee bar.

Oh what a slippery slope... I've wanted to go down that road, hmm maybe I need to pick up a 2nd Cayman. As far as front noses go I would recommend the GT on from M's Machine Works, but if you are racing and it gets messed up do you have someone who can repair fiberglass? Otherwise if you get some carbon fiber 911 fenders you could just use the Porsche GT3 bumper.

Yes it is sand beige. It is not full leather though. I am keeping the dash, but the rest of the interior is available, including stock Porsche Sport seats. Email or PM me if you are interested!
