I'd like a more stable seating arrangement for the track but I'm not yet able to completely commit to seats/harness and roll bar. I understand the safety debate regarding running a harness w/o a bar.
One thought is to just get GT3 or Recaros and use the stock 3 point belt. Would this be worthwhile and be an improvement even w/o a 6 point harness?
Is it hard to live with race seats for everyday driving, this is a weekend only car but nonetheless I'm not a skinny yogi.
My question is I'm sure quite a few of you have gone thru this and would appreciate your input and what you would do differently if anything.

The CG lock has been helpful, and I also tried locking the shoulder belt and sliding the seat forward to pressure it per another members suggestion and that was also an improvement.
The bolsters can be so deep on some of the racing seats, that you end up with the OEM 3-point system going over the bolsters and not holding you into the seat properly - which makes it less than ideal, and sometimes it's dangerous. Given the lack of airbags in the racing seats, you're probably safer with the all-OEM system, and using a CG Lock to keep it tight.

I am planning on getting some racing buckets for the track (more for the weight-saving than for the retention issue) - I'm thinking about using the lap belt portion of a racing harness to help hold my hips in place, along with the 3-pt shoulder harness for safety.
If and when I add a roll-bar, then I would add the full 5-pt harness.

Thanks KS-CS. I like your idea. Do you think PCA events would have a problem with this hybrid setup?

I'm not an expert on PCA rules, but I think that DE rules do specify that you have to have the same set-up for both the driver and instructor/passenger.
(At my last PCA DE, my instructor gently chided me for not providing him with a CG-Lock on the passenger side also).
Since you wouldn't be using the shoulder straps of a racing harness, I don't think you would be violating any rules regarding 4-pt harnesses, etc.

i can tell you taht they would not allow a lap belt and a 3 point belt on top of that. you can not combine belts. you either keep it stock or go for 5 or 6 point. many clubs do not allow 4 pt so don't bother with that. get the harness bar in the mean time and when you are ready for full roll bar move to that.
