Rally Race or Hill Climb?

does anyone on here Rally Race/Hill Climb their Cayman? seems to me that there would have to be some pretty severe suspension modifications for that, etc., but i've not seen it as of yet. lots of people going on the track, but a rally? is it even possible?

just curious - i had a dream about racing on a dirt track the other night and it started me wondering about it. hrm.

Possible, yes - but you would be looking at some pretty major and expensive suspension mods, skid plates, etc. because of the low ground clearance. It has been done with the 911s though (see pix):

He would say that it was a Freudian slip, like when you say one thing, but mean your mother.

Not all rallys are on gravel. Remember the Cayman won its class in the Rally San Remo last year. Here's the thread w/ videos:

SCCA holds hill climbs, for example, several events a year in reading PA. I believe they are classified as SOLO II, meaning you will need most if not all the safety mods required for SCCA road racing. full cage, extinguisher etc. and need to get an scca license.

Yes and no. Hillclimbing is/was part of SCCA Solo I, which now includes time trials and solo trials. It's a blast. You don't need a full cage, just a roll bar that meets spec.

Pennsylvania Hillclimb Assoc holds about 6 events a year, in Reading (Duryea and Pagoda Hillclimbs), Weatherly, Rose Hill, Wilkes-Barre (Giants Despair), etc. There's also the Blue Ridge Hillclimb in NC, another one in AL, etc. Also NASA has had some including Snowshoe in WV.

Hillclimbing is like a cross between mountain driving, time trialing and autocrossing. They block off a section of (paved) mountain road (usually about 2-3 miles), and cars divided by classes go up one at a time. Great variety of vehicles, and spectators rooting you on (I've even been asked for my autograph!). It's a ton of fun, but you gotta be careful as there's no run off room.

I retired from hillclimbing when I got my CS in '06. Previously had competed in an E30 BMW, a Mini Cooper S and an Elise. I still hold all-time class records on two hills! If you're interested I'd say get yourself a rollbar, a fire extinguisher and a novice license and do it!

We have two of those around the Boise area each year. I can not run in them presently because I have a convertable with only factory roll hoops not an aftermarket bar. A Cayman would fit in nicely with the cars that run at these events.
