Is a Borla exhaust AX legal?

I just wanted to confirm that Borla is legal for SCCA solo. I just saw a video of one and want to order one immediately.

Anything from the cat back is free in SCCA Solo II.

there are certain noise decibel restrictions for some AX venues - you may want to check with your local chapter. i would think a Borla would pass.

Check with the Municipality First

To be 100% certain, you would have to check with the municipality you’re racing in. Each municipality has different dB levels it adheres to.

To my understanding, the areas Solo I & Solo II are held at are not officially established/sanctioned race tracks. If the event is held in a large parking lot that borders commercial/residential zones, you might want to double-check. If they're held at an open airfield, it probably won't be an issue.

Thanks BGLeduc. I've been autocrossing for a while (in a CS Miata), but I appreciate your confirmation of what I thought as well: that this exhaust set up is "stock legal".

The other "watch-outs" -- from grrlsix and Kriggans -- are local, noise related restrictions. Important locally, but they don't impact the overall "legality" of the car from an SCCA rules standpoint.

Now to scrape together $1,500 bucks or so... BTW, the aftermarket exhaust I used in my Miata cost something like $300, and took me only about 30 minutes to install. Ah well, this ain't no Miata!

In a past motor sports life, I was a pretty avid SCCA Solo II competitor. I had a Borla (I think!) on my Miata (94 R Package), and a Comptec on my Integra Type R. On the track or under a bridge, they made music, but on the long drives to far away autocross events, the drone at highway speed was brain damage. It was happy day when both were taken off those cars.

And you are right to lament the price. No offense to Borla or anyone else, but I refer to pricing of Porsche stuff as being effected by the the P.A.T. That's the Porsche Added Tax. Anything that has anything to do with our cars, from a hat to a brake disc, is going to cost some multiple more than if you were buying a part for a Honda.
