Maybe not completely off, but it is definitely easier to get it sideways with it off.

Don't ask me how I know . . .

Actually, it does matter. It's the difference between a safety rope that allows a 5' drop or one that allows a 40' drop. The possibility that the safety device (PSM) will save you diminishes the faster and more out of control you are before it intervenes.

From a safety perspective, for an inexperienced driver the sooner PSM intervenes, the safer.

IMO Keep PSM on. I've been tracking my Cayman S in Ontario for the past 2 years and it's important that we all understand DE event's aren't races and if you're trying to squeeze every last bit of time from your laps you'll be encroaching on dangerous territory. As a rookie your instructor will certainly appreciate the slow and steady approach. Learn the lines, practice being smooth because when you're smooth you're fast.

BTW where in Canada do you live? What track are you going to next weekend?

Cheers,

Matt
I live in Ottawa. DE this week was at Calabogie Motorsports Park with Rennsport Region (Bob R in charge for those that know him from Rennlist). Had a blast. Left PSM on as advised and it was never an issue. Had one wet session and one rain session. I never saw any warning lights. The track is very very grippy imo.

CMP is a great track for Caymans. Complicated turn complexes, not a lot of long boring straights. I am thrilled with the car. Very easy for a novice like me to handle and look like a hero. Hard to tell for sure if it was the car, me, or the other drivers in my group, but it sure seems to eat up 964s, 993s, 996s and 997s in the corners. As much as I'd like to think it was me I am pretty sure it is the car!

Chris

At your first DE, it doesn't really matter.

At my first DE, then the next several, I was able to spin my car once a day both with PSM on or off. If you get far enough out of the envelope, it wont help you.

Eventually you may even remove the PSM, like I did.
Once you get to a certain point in your driving, PSM 8.0 can have some dangerous impact on braking.
