Ugh. Dropped from second to sixth. Updated the blog.
As for the GT-R, don't sleep on it. It's more than capable enough to be winning. The current driver is stuck on RE070's, just got a cast off a broken arm, and isn't taking any chances with it. Pretty sure he's not really supposed to be messing with the setup on it, and it came with understeer dialed in like all magazine cars, apparently.
Oh, for the record, Leh got a great launch and run. Problem is we're down on power for some reason unknown to us right now. And there isn't much we can do about it.
The car is still definitely stronger than a stock CS, though. I can't imagine a stock CS running that kind of time on PS2's. *shrug*

Do you have any means to read out the ECU, can you get to a PIWIS machine or do you have Softronic ECU tuning that if you can get a wireless connection you could troubleshoot with them? I think F-L was using REVO for awhile for ECU tuning, it sounds like something isn't right there to cause a power drop unless of course you've really toasted something but that should be lighting up your dashboard with errors if you have. Other than bad gas I don't know what to tell you other than try to get a readout of your ECU and see if that shows anything amiss. (or a competitor stuffing up your intake with a towel or tailpipe with a banana!)
PIWIS - Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System
Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System (diagnostic tester) This device is used to test various aspects of your Cayman's computer and electronic systems. These units cost over $12,000 to purchase and are connected to Porsche via a wireless connection at the dealership so that your Cayman's information can be sent to Porsche whenever your car is attached for diagnosis. The PIWIS device has the ability to control almost any system in your car provided that your car has the appropriate control units and programming installed. Your dealership may not perform some activities such as disabling safety equipment.
Softronic
SOFTRONIC produces DME programming and hardware to suit your companies specifications. Our current software suite is a complex matched set of programs housed in a Flash Manager and Flash Client. This software is matched with two cables, an End User and Master Cable. The SOFTRONIC proprietary flashing solution outperforms all other combinations in speed and accuracy including the factory Porsche equipment.

Does say something about how much tires add to the performance of cars, though.
rooting for you guys and my friends in the yellow Audi. I ran in 99' and 01'. I just bought
a Cayman S in Dallas and drove it back to Colorado. You guys are kicking some serious butt.

Not to hijack this thread.. but what's your name and what cars did you run in '99 and '01 ? I drove the Lotus 7 in '99 (10th overall), Toyota Supra Turbo in '00 (4th overall), and was running in the top 3 in '01 with Nick's R32 Skyline GT-R until it properly blew up. I'm finally back in the US after having moved to Europe to pursue my racing career full-time, and watching the event from the sidelines is just killing me.. any other Lap Dogs around here? Not surprising at all that crazy car guys like us love the 987 platform so much, it's such a fun car to toss around the track!
Donnie and Leh - hope the rest of the week goes well for you guys, no doubt a few of your competitors will drop out or have bigger problems than you guys have had so far, so just keep at it!
Sure, I remember you as a very competent and youthful driver. I drove the Millen modified Lexus GS400 with Jeri Unser as my co-driver and squeaked out a 3rd in lux class. The 2001 only lasted until Michigan when the Elise broke.
Do you remember the BMW with the porn queen co-driver? What a hoot!

Well... as posted in the Caymanclub faq, Car & Driver has tested the CS 3 times, posting 1/4 mile times of 13.4, 13.6, and 13.3. Road & Track has also posted 3 CS times: 13.3, 13.2, and 13.4.
Perhaps the magazines were willing to subject the cars to far more abuse, but they were all tested on OEM tires.
Yeah, my car feels insanely strong down low right now, which is why I didn't think a CS could do what my car did. But in reality, we're not getting on cam at all, which means we're missing at least 50HP up high, and that's why it barely beat a stock CS. No idea why we're having this issue, and no idea how long it's been going on. If you drove my car like it is and then drove a CS, you'd swear mine was insane and the CS was tame. But that's all neither here nor there as I stupidly rolled my tire trailer last night when almost home and then when going to grab a truck from home to clean up the mess I hit a deer with the Cayman. Our race is done. *sigh*
Hit a deer? DAMN those critters are out after the Caymans aren't they? Sorry to hear this happened, are you and everyone OK? Was the deer standing when you hit it or already down like the elk I hit? Estimated damage to car? BTW have you checked your LSD lately? I was just sent pics of a FL LSD that either was defective or not installed right and it isn't a pretty site.
Just read the blog, sounds like you are OK and I got my deer answers so yes it was karma in that deer and elk are out to get Caymans because our ancestors the Caimans did in so many of their ancestors.... must be the case..
LSD - Limited Slip Differential
A limited slip differential (LSD) is a modified or derived type of differential gear arrangement that allows for some difference in rotational velocity of the output shafts, but does not allow the difference in speed to increase beyond a preset amount. In an automobile, such limited slip differentials are sometimes used in place of a standard differential, where they convey certain dynamic advantages, at the expense of greater complexity.
The main advantage of a limited slip differential is found by considering the case of a standard (or "open") differential where one wheel has no contact with the ground at all. In such a case, the contacting wheel will remain stationary, and the non-contacting wheel will rotate freely– the torque transmitted will be equal at both wheels, but will not exceed the threshold of torque needed to move the vehicle, thus the vehicle will remain stationary. In everyday use on typical roads, such a situation is very unlikely, and so a normal differential suffices. For more demanding use however, such as driving off-road, or for high performance vehicles, such a state of affairs is undesirable, and the LSD can be employed to deal with it. By limiting the velocity difference between a pair of driven wheels, useful torque can be transmitted as long as there is some friction available on at least one of the wheels.
