Drivers Ed!

OK...this is to everyone who hasn't been to a Drivers Ed event. What are you waiting for? No doubt this is as much fun you can have with your clothes on!

I went to my first DE event this weekend at Mid Ohio. I was a bit leary - I hadn't been before. It sounded like it would be a blast but a have to admit a bit intimidating. I mean, some of these people are pretty serious. I went, ultimately because a friend and local PCA member was so excited about it...and of course to see what my Cayman could do!

First, I have to say that everyone I met was great. There were no big egos and many people like me - people who love their cars and want to be able to drive them the way they were designed to be driven. Many of us had very little if any experience on the track. We were organized into groups based upon our experience and assigned instructors that coached us through the course. I have to say, having someone that has been driving on the track for 20 years giving you advice on how to drive - I mean really drive is outstanding. These people love what they do and really enjoy teaching those of us that are interested in learning how to drive well. By the second day of the event, there I was running down the back straight at 110, breaking hard to set up Madness (the hairpin turns at the end of the straight). Awesome! I can't for the next event.

The bottom line, DE events are a BLAST! I would encourage you anyone who hasn't done one to get out there and give a try. You'll be hooked too.

I went to Pocono April 5th and 6th, and I am going out to Mid Ohio in June.... Glad to hear you liked the track.

DocCroc, as one of your classroom instructors, I was pleased to watch your progression...and your in-car instructor, my buddy and garage mate, was also very pleased with you as a student...

Your Cayman S is a beautiful car, and it was a pleasure to help you start to raise your skill set so that you can truly appreciate the capabilities that were designed into it...

Now if you can only talk your wife into taking a DE and get her to take a hit off the go-fast crack pipe...then you've got it made!

No doubt...I am working on it. She thinks that if she wears only "non-natural fiber" clothes and dowses herself in kerosine before we head out to Nelson Ledges she wouldn't be allowed to go for a ride I'm on to her...

Hope to see you at Nelson in a few weeks. Please send John my thanks. It really was an amazing time.

Thumbs up Well said!

I did my first DE this week also with Rennsport Region. My experience was exactly the same as DocCroc. Great people, great instructors, no pressure, no egos. I bet it is the same in all PCA regions. Join PCA and go do a DE!
