3rd DE & CG Lock

Just got back from my 3rd DE at Summit Point. I want to thank the guys that suggested the CG lock. It made a big difference in helping me to stay planted in the seat. I'm still going to add GT3 seats and the necessary safety hardware down the line. It's still hard work staying in place & controlling the car. My other "big" modification to the car is a set of Porterfield C4 pads. I planned to be more agressive with the brakes and they worked out great pulling the car down with no fade and great feel. They only occasionally squeek on the street.

I was moved to the yellow run group for this event. When I found out they had put green, yellow & blue out at the same time I was a little nervous. My first run was a disaster, not from a safety view point I wasn't going that fast but I was going faster than I should have been to easily get the line. My instructors intercom was broken and it was hard to get feedback from him. I went out in his car and observing his line was really helpful. My next run was like night & day & by the end of the first day we where really having fun & I was as fast as any car in the three groups.

I had several drivers in my group come over ( 911,996,997 & turbo)to check out the car and they where all wondering what kind of modifications I had done to it. It was a gas showing them my CG lock & saying brake pads! I particullary loved it when a gentleman driving a 1 year old Turbo with Pilot Sport Cups let me know that he was exasperated because he couldn't catch me. I'm sure a better driver could have but on a tight course these cars are fantastic.
As usual everyone was friendly & helpful. God this is addicting! lol

+1 on CGLOCK. Also, if you have power seats and the CGLOCK, and do not need the seat all the way back, try this:

Put seat all the way to the rear, then recline seat back as far as possible. Fasten lap belt and pull tight. Pull out chest belt, let it snap back and then yank again to get the inertial reel to lock up. While holding the chest belt "locked up", drive the seat forward, then tilt the seat back forward until the belt is very, very tight. This kept me much better planted.

+1 on GT3 seats, also. I am just starting to learn to drive on the track, and it is clear that the most important performance mods are
  1. improve the driver
  2. keep the driver planted in the seat (see #1)
  3. better brakes
  4. alignment and tire pressure

While I expect to do several mods on the car, track seats have jumped to first on the list.

diverdog,

Nice meeting you & running with you at Summit Point, even if it was just to let you pass! Once you do get yourself securely strapped in, you're likely to be even faster.
Glad to see you've caught the DE bug, and are driving your car the way it was built to be driven, in the safest way possible.
I'll be getting an alignment next, and a wider gas pedal to help me heel & toe. PS Thanks for letting me "try it on" in your car.

BTW, facelvega, you've got your priorities in order IMHO.

I recently put a CG lock on too for an AX a couple of weeks ago. I loved it for the event but my CS is a daily driver and the CG lock really annoys me everytime I get into my car now. It 's probably not worth the effort to take it on and off so I'm still thinking about what to do with it...

I bought a CG lock before receiving my car. I forgot to bring the CG lock to with me to an auto cross this past Sunday, but with the sport seats I didn't even need it. If anyone needs an unused CG lock pm me.

Vega, thanks for the tip. One of the experienced guys showed me that trick & I used it for my last two runs. It's uncomfortable but it did work well.

This driver definately needs more modification than the car. lol I'm looking forward to more seat time & great instruction.

diverdog,
I saw your post about seats a while back, and saw the suggestion about the CG locks that came out of that post. I got 2 CG locks. I got one for Mid Ohio comming up, and one for my daughter's car for Pocono Ladies Day.

Ken, it was a great investment very cost effective. The other high return item is a tire pressure guage. I was shocked how much the tp changes. Running the tires 38F 39R hot as suggested here seems to really help.

Is your daughters car one of the Audi's? There was an RS4 in our run group at SP. I'm not going to Mid Ohio & am on the wait list for Pocono. It will be good to see you & hear your feedback on MO.
