I'm looking for a set of Auto-X rims to run in SCCA AS...I've searched around but haven't found much; which rims are people using? (I'm having issues finding rim sizes w/ such a high offset...I'm probably just not looking in the right area)
I have the factory 18's: Front: 8J x 18 +57 Rear: 9J x 18 + 43 Bolt Pattern: 5-130
since I'm running AS (A stock), I can't deviate from the rim size, except for +/- 5mm offset...what are some lightweight decently priced options? (higher offsets are okay b/c I can just run a spacer and longer studs)
I'm running the same wheels that you are, but in SS. Since we have to stick with OE widths and diameters, I don't feel the need to get different wheels, even if they're a little bit lighter. If I ran across a set that fit, were strong, were 5 pounds lighter per corner, and weren't ugly, I might reconsider. I have a set of the lightweight RAC group buy wheels on order, but won't use them for autocross, at least as long as I stay in stock.
Since you're running AS you must have a 2.7L Cayman?
Then I think you would have to run the 17" X 6.5" and 17" X 8" that come stock.
Since 18's are available as a factory option on the 2.7 I believe that he is allowed to use them in AS.
I remember looking for light-weight 18's in the factory sizes a while back, and couldn't find any. I just checked on Vivid Racing and notice that Fikse has some (Profil 5) - don't know how much they weigh, but at $1100 each they better be pretty light.
If price is important, you might just want to stay with the OEMs (or buy some take-offs if you need another set). Are you going with wider rubber on them?

I'm actually running an '07 Boxster that came with the facotry option Caymen 18's...thanks for all the help guys, it's starting to sound like picking up a set of used factory rims might be my best option - hopefully craigslist will have a cheap set.
-the NWR SCCA region that I run in has a street tire indexed class (same rules apply for all classes, but only street tires)...I'm planning to run that next year. (I'm currently running a '05 350Z in BSP...touting a tire trailer, changing wheels, rough suspension, loud exhaust and expensive tires are starting to pay it's toll on me - I'm looking forward to autoXing the Boxster on street tires!

The no trailer and no tire changes make that street tire class fun.
You taking it to Bremerton next weekend?
I need to get my CSP car together so I can run at Packwood at least once.
Maybe the National Tour in August. I won't be competitive but it would be fun.
I'll be in my BSP 350Z this coming Sunday at Bremerton for the SCCA #3...I'm going for season points, so I can't afford to bring the boxster to points events.
*I may run the boxster at the May 31st/June 1st WWSCC events at Bremerton...
You know we have a classifieds here and often times there are extra sets of factory wheels being sold, or if you want factory replica wheels check with Raderwerks, I've run those on the track without any problems, just don't jump elk with them...

The CS "base" 18" five spoke wheels are the lightest of the Porsche wheels and you'll be hard pressed to find anything in the aftermarket that's much (if any lighter) without paying $3000+ per set. You can often find those for under $1000 per set as takeoffs, often with tires that are still usable. That's definitely the best option, IMHO.
And don't let people tell you that 1/4" spacers should be added just because the rules allow it. People say they can tell the difference, but the math says otherwise.

1. Purchase new Porsche Factory alloys.
2. Purchase like-new used or restored Porsche alloys from us.
3. Have us refinish your Factory alloys. We restore, anodize, polish and chrome plate.

5. Exchange your straight, true Factory alloys for Factory alloys pre-finished the way you want.
6. Exchange your scratched/curb damaged Factory alloys for new or refinished Factory Alloys.
7. Trade in your straight, true Factory alloys for aftermarket or Factory wheels. http://www.wheelenhancement.com

sounds like a plan...I'm hoping to find something local to avoid shipping charges, but I'll start looking here too.

Yeah, it looks like these run around Front 20lbs, and Rear 23lbs...not too bad, but for those sizes a 16-18lbs rim wouldn't be too expensive IF I could get the right size (My Enkei RPF1's are 18X10 and weigh 18lbs....and cost $1,200 for the set)
thanks for the info!

I weighed mine and don't recall them being quite that much.
And yeah, you can find lighter wheels for decent money, but as you've found, getting stock legal offsets is the trick. Hard to do. That's why I said going with those base wheels is a really good option, especially for the money...
