DE improves vision (temporarily)

I am farsighted and need to wear reading glasses. I started out only needing 1.25 strength glasses and have moved up to 1.50. I am resisting going up to 1.75 because it seems every time you go up, you can never go back. Anyway, last Friday I had a track event at Summit Point in West Virginia. In the morning meeting the organizers hand you a pack of papers to read that include the schedule for the day, track map, etc. Could not read any of it without the glasses. After my first 20-minute session, I noticed something strange -- I could now read the schedule, even the fine print, without my glasses! I had three more sessions throughout the day and never had to put on my glasses.

Not sure what caused the increased visual awareness, probably adrenaline but thought I would pass this piece of useless information on anyway. Alas, the benefit did not last and I am now back to wearing glasses while I type this post.

If anyone is interested, here is some track video from my second session. I am still in the novice group but did get signed off to solo after the third run. Any constructive feedback is welcome. I will be returning to the same track for a PCA DE in two weeks.

Are you sure it wasn't the result of brighter sunlight? In bright light, your pupils shrink to a smaller diameter, which just like in cameras provides a greater depth of focus. Anyone who is far-sighted or suffering from that dreaded over-40 loss of close vision will be able to read better in very bright light vs. dim light for this reason.

i am an optometrist and agree with this explaination. you also may have been holding the material farther away than normal and the text may have been large enough that you did not need your glasses with the bright sunlight.

Perhaps it was that you concentrated a lot on the track that you could concentrate better on reading afterwards!

I did the bright sunlight test this weekend. Spent an hour driving my Cub Cadet around mowing the grass in the bright morning sun. Had the same track schedule in my pocket and looked at it several times, both close and farther away. The bright sun did help tremendously but there were still sections of smaller print that were difficult to read. For me anyway, there was still some other factor that added additional visual clarity. Intense concentration plus adrenaline maybe?

DE puts HUGE focus distance changes on the eyes -

In fact on of the prime racing sight exercises is to, while the car is parked:

Focus on the top of your steering wheel
Tip of your car
A point 20 ft away
50 ft away
Horizon

All within about 5 seconds.

Really trains the eyes well

Thanks for the video it looks like you were having fun.

A good friend of mine's eyes were going bad too. He got an eye chart uses it twice a day. He now does not need glasses. It could have been the fact at you were really using them without glasses??? Get a chart and see if it works for you.
