Where is the very best place to live if you wanted to be fairly close (say, within an hour) to a variety of great tracks???

San Jose, CA, in my opinion. Of course, I thought Texas has more road courses than any other state, but Texas is so big most will be more than hour away. But somehow I'm guessing you already know that.

San Jose area....Basically anywhere in the SF Bay Area... Pick SJ as your baseline... <90 minutes to Laguna Seca (Mazda Speedway), <90 minutes to Sears Point (Infineon) , and about 2.5 hrs to Thunder Hill...and 5 minutes to the industrial park backroads where the ricers go at 3:00 AM

Well MSR is pretty great, never been on ECR, TMS or TWS. I don't get out of state much, so my world is pretty small I suppose.

I can say that I'm pretty happy being a short 20min hop from MSR, its my usual Sunday drive, back roads all the way!

Don't forget ButtonWillow is about 3 hrs south, and Reno-Farnley is not much further. So 5 tracks are within a reasonable driving distance. This doesn't meet caygirls 1 hour criteria, but these are all excellent tracks.

All I can say here is I like your way of thinking! I'm lucky I'm about a 45 min drive from Watkins Glen but after that, it's at least a 4 hour drive to any other track.

If your in the Los Angeles area you have ButtonWillow, Willowsprings and the California Speedway 2 hours, 1 hour 15 mins and 50 minutes away respectfully. Laguna Seca and Spring Mountain are about 3-3 and a half hours away and Thunderhill is probably about the same.

Depends on what you consider "great" tracks. IMO, if you make your time/distance limit a little longer, either the Northeast or the SF Bay Area... the tracks I mention, I personally consider great tracks.

Northeast (NY, NJ, DC): if you make your time/distance limit more like 4-5 hours.
The Glen, Lime Rock, VIR, Summit Point... farther away - Mt. Tremblant, Road Atlanta

SF Bay Area: if you make your time/distance limit more like 2-4 hours.
Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Thunderhill, Buttonwillow... farther away - Willow Springs, CA Speedway, Spring Mountain (LV).

Western Chicago, IL is not bad strictly from an access to road race courses perspective:

Autobahn Country Club: 3 different configurations + karting + membership with DAILY access....

Road America about 3 hours away. Blackhawk Farms, Putnam, Gingerman, Grattan, GIR all within 2-4 hours. Mid-Ohio at 6 hours.

Although I'd choose Forth Worth for the weather and join MSR. I really like the idea of the country club tracks.
