Pictures from Scuderia Hanseat training at Nurburgring May 2008
Along with about 300 other drivers I attended the Scuderia training at Nurburgring in April/May 2008. It was just awesome, great fun and I learned a lot. Both about my car and driving it as fast as possible, and about the track. I never thought I would remember all the curves of the 25 km track, but I actually did in the end. None at all! It run like a clock the whole time. Also on the autobahn where I drove it at over 270 km/h many times.
But my tires were worn down, so I had to change them when I got home. On the track I allways let out some pressure to get the best possible grip. But the last couple of days when the speed was much higher I wished that I had cup tires, the feel was quite "spongy" then. And I would have liked a little more horsepower.
But the car behaved perfectly, I love the balance in this car. I testet out using PASM in sport mode and in normal mode. On the Nordschleife I found it better to use normal mode because the track is quite bumpy many places. But on the Grand Prix part of the track where the formula one cars drive I used sport mode ofcourse. The sports exhaust was allways on since the car answers much more quickly then to the push of the throttle.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

PSE - Porsche Sports Exhaust System
The acoustics of this dual-mode sports exhaust system are dependent on driving style, ranging from standard output during normal road driving to a more aggressive tone during performance use. Modes are selected using a button on the center console (or ‘Sport’ mode button on vehicles with optional Sport Chrono Package/Sport Chrono Package Plus).
Introduction planned for 04/2007. Some models may require additional components. For detailed information about this product, please contact your Porsche dealer.

PistolPete: No, we were not able to switch cars during this event. The instructors around the track gave us feedback and needed the startnr connected to the right person. Also during the "exam" driving it was very important that you stayed with your car as we were judged and given grades at almost all the corners. I've driven it earlier, but not on the track. But we are attending several trackdays etc in june, so I'll probably try it properly soon. I just have to bring som cushions since his seat is fixed and so low that I hardly can see the road/track.
Jayman: I'm sorry my english isn't better, but I dont understand the expression "tangled with something hard".
KS-CS: It's a kind of sports drivers course at Nurburgring in Germany which the organisation Scuderia Hanseat organizes twice a year. There are about 300 drivers that are divided into 12 groups. The group has it's own instructors, and additionally there are special instructors at all the different parts of the track. The course lasts 4 days and is ended by an exam where you get evaluated and get grades at about 30 places on the track. The evaluation at each point is based on speed, turning point, curve line, braking points etc, absoultely everything around how you handle your car at that specific point. Very well organized with German efficiency. More here:
Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Scuderia training" ?
From Wikipedia:
Scuderia means "stable" in the Italian language. It has entered English usage mainly through motorsport, where many Italian organizations use the term.
"Scuderia" may refer to:
* Scuderia Ferrari, a successful Italian Formula One team
* any of a number of other Italian racing teams, such as Scuderia Toro
Rosso, Scuderia Italia, Scuderia Centro Sud, etc.
* A version of the Ferrari F430
