Let's see, you have 450 miles logged already. So, you only need another 1550 miles. Stop reading and writing and start driving. I had the same sort of thing happen when I got my car. It was easy to log the miles as I wanted to live in the car.

Then after the track event, change the oil and smile a lot.

Well, I did it. I took the car to the track at Roebling Road and had a blast, all the while observing the artificial redline of 4200 to respect the break-in period. The car has so much torque in the mid-range that I really didn't feel hampered at all. Not having been on a track since 1990 (and that was in a vintage car with skinny bias ply tires), it was a huge help to have an instructor (Bob Woodman) riding along to help me learn the limits of this amazingly well balanced car. Even with the artificial redline, I found that the car was significantly quicker than most other cars on the track thru the infield section, including a number of 911's. The balance of the car was such that I found myself saying in the earlier laps with the instructor driving, "there's no way this car can take this corner" only to watch in amazement as it went around like it was on rails.

Watching the Cayman gobble up the 911's through the infield made me wonder just how far Porsche wants to develop the cayman platform, given that the Cayman, if properly developed, could cannibalize its elder sibling in terms of performance.

Thanks to all who responded, and, if anyone should face this question in the future, my advice is: just do it.

Thumbs up Good for you . . .

I can't believe you were able to resist going over 4200, but I'm glad you got to experience that phenomenal handling. If you think it was great then, just wait until you are driving it in the real power band!

i have never observed the so called break-in period in any of the cars, except one car, i have owned.

the only car that i had problems with was that ONE car that i babied, a 2002 996C4S.

my RS had 400 miles then it went to thunderhill raceway, 160 of which was driving to the track.
