2.7 track pads

Now that I'm about to go through my second set of stock pads on my Cayman 2.7, I wonder what others are currently finding effective? I'd prefer to use them on the street as well and not have to go through the hassle of changing them for every track event.

I broke the OEM pads at Mid Ohio and replaced them with Pagid Orange that I had with me. I am glad I had the new pads with me. Went through the wear sensor on the old pads, and had them changed and ready for the next run group. I had to drive the car home 500 miles. The braking on the track was much better. A little noisey around town, but nothing I can't live with.

I'm happy to hear the Pagid Orange works even better on the track. How do you like them for street minus the noise? Did you replace all 4 wheels with the pagid?

I am in the same boat.

I did replace my OEM pads 2,000 miles ago with Pagid Blues and bedded them properly. They worked very well at the track, but in street driving that have issues:

1. Noisy, pretty much every brake application results in squeal (this starts after few hundred of street miles, not at first.)

2. Grinding - when braking, I keep hearing grinding noise at low speeds, though breaking seems to be unafected. I am going back to teh track today, and I will take my wheels off to make sure all looks good.

3. Probably the showstopper for me, rotor wear seems to be accelerated. I have not measured my rotors, but judging by the lip, after 1 track day and 2,000 miles my rotors are 2mm thinner (1mm on each side.)

Another pad that people may recommend is a Ferodo DS2500, that pad is not good enough for track use and it will leave deposits.

BTW, besides these three issues above Pagids have performed great. Best part - no vibrations and pad deposits whatesoever.

I would feel good about Pagids at the track, and limited street driving, but I will switch back to OEM or other street pad for daily commuting.

Looking at the specs of each pad at www.rennstore.com looks as if the orange is the better pad for the 2.7. The fact that our cars have less rotor to dissipate heat, orange has a 50 degree higher threshold. I volunteer my car to be the test car for "what works best on the 2.7" shoot out.

I should have been more specific - Race Blue, almost the same as the Orange. Different from the Sport Blue.... figures.

I replaced the rear brakes when I got home. It evened out the braking. It was easier to bed the pads in at the track where you can get the pads to the heat you need. I am getting a high pitch squeal at times when doing normal braking, but I can live with that. The braking felt coarser at first than with the OEM pads but seems to be smoother now after the pads have bedded in. Overall I am very happy with the orange.

I also installed the GT3 front brake duct spoilers. Easy to do....

I plan to squeeze in yet another track weekend on my OEM pads, then I plan to run the Pagid Orange. Anyone have the OEM specs? Just wondering what the friction and heat ratings are for OEM vs Pagid.

Pads on our cars have to be the easiest of any car, but I'm pretty lazy, and plan to run orange for street and track. If for some reason I end up not liking them for the dual use I can always pick up another set of OEM pads after words.

I purchased Pagid Orange (Rennstore.com) and used them on a DE at Thunderhill, CA; They are significantly better than OEM pads on the track. I ran them around town without too much bother. But, I swapped back the OEM for around town and I feel that the OEM pads are a bit more forgiving in stop and go traffic and gentle stops -- and are quiet. More in line with my mellow driving in the Bay Area...

I think the effort to swap out OEM's for Pagid Orange pads for track days is really minimal... It takes more time to take the wheel off and retorque than to swap out the pads... the latest swap allowed a chance to do some cleaning in the wheel wells --- plastic dressing on the hard rubber wheel well pieces --- looks great with the rims' wheel wax.

The only other thing would be to be careful to bleed the brake lines with fresh fluid (Motul 600) periodically -- again a recommendation form Craig at Rennstore.

Others have had good success with Pagids on the street 100% of the time - with minimal or no noise at all - especially the Blues.

There is almost always a compromise of some sort with pads:

1) OEM - way too soft for track uise, wear out very quickly, weird brake feel - but, by God they are quiet.....

2) Pagids - As written here on this post and especially on other pad posts, Pagids are significantly better in every area than OEM, some by a LONG way.

OEMs do but ONE thing well..........quiet as a Kitten.
And that's about it -

If I owned a Cayman (I do have a Porsche 930 with Pagid Yellows) I'd switch for track days, using Pagid Yellows.
NO compromises with this setup -

Maybe a litte OT. Is it better to replace both rear and front pads, instead of just doing the front ones?

I also replaced a set of pads at MidOH but with KFP golds. On the street they feel fine--plenty of torque at lower tempsand very little noise. I have a DE this weekend and will pass along how they do at Nelsons, which is not a heavy braking track.
