The owner of this beautiful Cayman is a great guy who has more big time toys than the gods. He is currently recovering from a smaller back injury while driving in the Baja races. He really doesn't have much knowledge about cars and usually prefers doing sports that involve his kids. When I mentioned Cayman Club, there was no recognition. The owner does want to learn and enjoy hi performance driving, but it is not the top thing on his list of fun toys and sports.
The Porsche racing shop, Air Power Racing in Ogden, Utah, next to Hill Air Force Base, made and maintains the car, built from a stock CS.
I got to drive the right handed GT-R for one lap at 3/4 speed. The car seems so BIG!, and full of HP and great handling. One lap didnt tell me much while I tried to learn the DSG shifts, and get familiar to the car's balance, handling, braking and big power reservoir, along with relearning right handed driving positions. One lap only made me wish for a hundred more. The car belongs to a company that makes after market car parts, and they are designing new parts for the GT-R. The GT-R will be released on July 8 in the USA.
I really loved this pure race Cayman. It was superior to any of the Porshe GT3 Cup cars that I have driven, except without the GT3's power. Very few modifications to this car's engine, as I understand, but the weight reduction made the car feel completely new... Much more nimble and with better feeling than the R8 and the GT-R. It just didn't have the big power reserve,... and no Porsche,.. (even with ceramic brakes), can touch an R8 in braking.
I hope I get to experience more days such as this one... So sweet!
