Remove front brake backing plates?

Anybody remove the front brake splash guards/backing plates? notice any problems or lower brake temps on track? I am bolting on a set of PFC rotors and looks like the guards come off with 3 bolts and will expose the rotor to a little more airflow...can only be a good thing on a DE car. No, my car is not a DD so i am not concerned about exposing the rotor. thanks...
