Track Day Report...Bad News...Good News...and an admission

We did a track day at TH last Saturday. The intended runners were BLUBLST and the new Miata.

The bad news: BLUBLST never made it to TH. Friday afternoon while prepping the car, I took it out for spin--I had not driven it since the last track day. The power steering was groaning something awwwwfullll. Not good. Decided to leave the CS at home, and go solo miata. The dealer installed a new PS pump and lines this week, under warranty.

The good news: We had a (green) blast! The Green Jelly Bean is a joy--a different kind from the CS--to drive. Maureen even did better (lower times) in the Miata, then she's done in the CS. The car has tons of grip and its peppy enough to scoot scoot along right on tail of the big HP cars all through the curves.

It also demonstrated what I knew for a long time: that the CS makes us all look like great drivers its so easy to drive. My best time in the CS is around 2:11, not vastly far off from Quixotica (2:07) and others. In the Miata, I did 2:30....but my corner speeds were very close to my speeds in the CS, sometimes only a tad slower, sometimes the same. And a lot of spec miata guys run in the low 2:10's. The key for me is to raise my corner entry speeds in both cars with later braking.

Moral: I still have a long way to go...and I'm looking forward to it.

And....we're buying another Miata now for my daughter!
And one last note: I recant and seek forgiveness. I made a huge mistake buying the Tip. Shifting the Miata has made me realize how crucial the manual is on the track.

Anyone want to trade?
