So I got an invite to Porsche of Roanoke's track event at VIR, and low and behold, there is a nail residing in my driver's side rear inner sidewall. The tire surgeon at Foreign Cars Italia notified me that removing it would kill the patient, and also duly informed me that I would need to replace BOTH rears. Anyone got any ideas for a quick fix, or failing that, how do the assembled petrol heads feel about Goodyear Eagle F1s? I'm trying NOT to blow a wad on tires, it's between those, Sumitomo HTR Z IIIs, or BF Goodrich G-Force T/A KDs. (Quite a mouthful) Anyone else coming to Virginia International Raceway on the 28th?

What tires do you have on the rest of the car?

Alex: I've been considering the Goodyear F1 Asymmetrics for my next set, as they have correct front and rear sizes, and also did very well against the PS2s in Tire Rack's test. I'd replace all four, however.
Sticking through the sidewall? Wonder how that happened. If it were in the tread away from the sidewall, I'd say just have it patched from the inside.
I plan to attend that event as well, so hope to see you there.
Are you related to Robert McNabb, the Fiat driver from hell?

I have a set of these on Volks Racing TE37 rims (18"x9" F, 10" R). Before a DE or Autocross event I switch out the 19" OEMs for these which gives me a chance to bleed the brakes and give each corner a good going over.
At the Autocross events they are excellent tires! I'm able post times that are comparable to 911s with 50 more ponies and R compound tires.
The DE events I have attended it has rained in the morning and I can vouch for the TireRack tests which indicated these shoes were excellent in the wet. It's a blast to go out on the track and rocket around with these tires. No hydroplaning, very predictable slip and slide. It also helps that the cars with dry tires aren't clogging up the track . Once the track dried out it was a different story. At the beginning of a session I was able to keep up and pass alot of the vehicles out there but towards the end once my tires got good and hot the performance fell off and I found myself being passed by the same cars I had passed earlier.
The tire wear has been a plus. I do about 4 to 5 DEs and AXs (each) per year and I estimate these tires will last 3 or 4 seasons including being able to drive comfortably to and from each event.
These tires provide a good balance between performance, durability and $$.
The infamous Fiat driver is none other than my dear ol' dad. Glad to hear you're making it out there, your reputation proceeds you, sir... Do you have any details on the event? All I know is it starts at 8:00 AM, and includes catering. Also, I did run down some OEM replacements for the rear, BS Tire of Floyd VA came through big time. (1 day shipping)
Now I remember that Robert said that it was his *son* who was interested in a Cayman. That was well over a year ago at an autocross at Mercer County airport. Well, you've got good driving genes.
Good to hear that you found tires. Floyd has a lot of hidden good stuff, including a Porsche mechanic named Bill Driskell.
I attended their previous VIR South Course event, so I guess this one will be similar (but hopefully without the GT3 RS crash). I arrived before 8:00 at the South Course building. They did a brief tech of our cars (they'll have at least one of their mechanics there), and then started with a track orientation session behind a pace car. I can't remember if there were two or three run groups (based on experience), but they did offer us the opportunity for demo drives in several new Porsches. They served a nice lunch, and ran a casual show. I had fun, so I'm going back.
