Well most tracks are requiring at least a Snell 2000 certified helmet this year as the Snell 95's are now more than 10 years old. I have a Snell 2000 so I haven't been shopping lately, but Bell always makes some nice ones.
I used Bell for long time, now I switched to Arai. The Arai is more expensive but lighter. Depending on the purpose, Arai may be overkill. I think Bell's structure fits most people well and comfortable; as well as Arai. But Simpson, Stand 21, etc. have different structures that they are not fit for all type helmets.
Advice: never buy a helmet online, you have to try it out; unless you are buying the same size from the same manufacturer. Sizes between manufacturers differ in terms of fitment and comfort.
I agree with FT that you've got to try them out before you buy. Even the same size from the same manufacturer will vary in how it actually fits. I tried three helmets of the same size, type, vendor and design -and chose the one that was the most comfortable fit for me. All felt slightly different!
Mine's made by Bieffe - it's fine for trackdays and approved for national-level motorsport in the UK.
More advice - buy a discontinued line (e.g. last year's driver's colours or something). You get all the quality for sometimes less than half the price.
I got mine for £60, the previous year it was selling for £160. It was a replica design of Alexander Wurz's racing helmet when he was with Sauber I think, and once he moved to become the McLaren test driver, the design was rendered irrelevant...
I like the Bell helmets. Their pro racer line, while being slightly more expensive, is made from kevlar, not fiberglass, and is much, much lighter. I've done some endurance races in my M2 pro, and it was much better than other helmets I've had. The other thing I like about the pro series of helmets is they are sized by hat size (like 7 3/8, etc.) for a much better fit than S, M, L. Fit is what it's all about - you only have one brain - make sure you protect it right.

I bought a Bell on Ebay, after checking lots of vendor pages for prices and sizing charts. If igured the worst case was I could sell it. It was SA2000 brand new, fit perfect and I saved quite a bit.

Cayman S - a portable amusement park
Buy any brand that is SA certified that is a very comfortable fit. IMO, this is one area you don't want to skrimp oneven if you go over budget. Try it on before you buy or have a good return policy. Kevlar is great but for short 15-30 min sessions fiberglass is usually fine.
Brian,
Yes, the headrest on my stock seat causes my head to be forward of where I would like it to be. The MOMO race seat in my old 911 did the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions?
