Spoiler

What do you guys think... Should we be manually depolying the spoiler for track use, or letting it go up and down automatically?

The spolier goes down at 8kmph - so I imagine it would go down right in the middle of a very tight high G hairpin turn. This probably isn't ideal, but maybe the airflow at ths speed is not sufficient enough for it to make any difference anyway?

thoughts?

just did the DE at Mid Ohio and manually lifted the spoiler. 1. because more force is better. 2. cause it looks cool.

goes up at 70mph and down below 40mph, if you are on the track you should be going faster than that no matter how tight the turn

I would get that checked out, I don't think that is working as intended?

According to my Aussie manual, it goes back down at 80kmph - or 50mph.

I ask the question because I have some track photos, and in quite a few of them the spolier is down. And my lap times wern't too shabby. I would definately be braking to below 80kmph on two of the sharper corners.

I have been at Willow Springs, big course and the Streets, California Speedway, and going to Infineon and Laguna. I manually placed the spoiler up to avoid any body configuration changes while at speed on track. I doubt that little spoiler does much below 120 to 140 mph (at least in my experience thus far at those speeds). However, I just don't wantthings moving around my bodywork while on track. And yes, alas, it does look a bit more sporty and race carlike with the spoiler up when the little gator is on track. Tally ho.

ps my biggest issue thus far is getting negative camber in the front end to gain proper tire contact patch and stop destoying front tires. See my track alignment topic under competition section.

Craig - at my local track the tightest turn is about 67kph. Any faster and I am drifting and scrubbing tyres. Intructor went around similar speed. I tried putting the spolier up manually, but when i came back to the pits it was down again?

David, it doesn't matter about the spoiler below 80kmh. There just isn't enough air flow to make a difference at that speed.

I had my spoiler up after washing the car and was drying underneath it and noticed that the spoiler seems very flimsy. With very little force, the thing was flexing all over the place and I am sure that I could bust it in half with only mild weight. So, I wonder if it really adds as much to downforce as Porsche claims.

Jason.

I set mine up at the track so that it put less wear on the mechanism.

The spoiler is like a 'look at me Im now speeding' indicator. Can we disable this auto up / down? If so how?

The spoiler goes up at 75mph and down again at 50mph. If you manually deploy the spoiler and you go above 75, it DOES go back into auto mode and will go back down once you drop your speed below 50mph. These are facts. I have tested them.

wrong ,read the manual ,you can deploy the spoiler manualy ,i did it inadvertantly and posted that i thought i had a problem because my spoiler remained in the up position after i stropped,i didn't have a problem i had just inadvertantly pressed the spoiler button when reaching for the gears .

i quote page 60 owners manual.

when the ignition is on ,the rear spoiler can be extended and retracted manually using the button.

when the rear spoiler is extended manually , the automatic control does not operate and the rear spoiler must be manually retracted.

Well raysman... mine goes into auto mode once the threshold is reached. I tried to keep it up 'so to speak' and by the time I get to work it is always down....try yours again put it up, manually...exceed 80mph and stop..trust me it will be retracted
