After this past weekend's track event I noticed a residue on my exhaust tips. This picture was taken after the first day, it was worse after the second. It WILL come off, but it takes a LOT of scrubbing, as if it almost plated itself to the metal. I *think* it might be oil residue from any oil that was sucked into the intake manifold under hard cornering while on the track and then subsequently burnt through the engine and then deposited on a hot exhaust tip. Any other members had anything similar???

Haven't had this on the Cayman yet, but I used to get some like this on both tips on the 996 turbo after a track day, or a high-speed run through the desert type of drive - I think you're right - it's normal oil consumption through the exhaust, made more sticky by the heat of the day and the heat of the tip from 20 minute lapping sessions.

It used to coat just the outside and bottom edges of the dual turbo tips exactly the same on both sides. I used P21S complete auto wash (the citrus-based product) to get it off without a lot of rubbing.

Those tips look pretty clean to me! Mine are much worse - probably oil and other muck picked up from the road burning onto them, as you said...

It's Viper dust from regularly getting your intake too close to the Viper's exhaust [img]/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/beer1.gif[/img]
