I wonder how the Porsche
TPMS system will affect people trying to swap out rims andtires for HDPEs?
I know the Corvette guys have run into a lot of problems lately (late 2005 and on...). Their system of sensors in the tires communicates with the car and if you switch to track tires (even with a new set of sensors installed) it doesn't want to recognize them. Not to mention, if you try to run a different set of rims/tires without any sensors the car goes into a mode that restricts performance of the vehicle. This information is from what I remember and last checked, things could have changed or been fixed by now, not sure.
So, it could get interesting come 2007 with
TPMS standard! Hmph? Something to start thinking about.

TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.
See the TPMS FAQ for more info. |
