MantisSport has had to design many parts to prepare the Cayman S for competition, many of these parts will be of value to Cayman S owners who want to track their cars or participate in autocross events.

We are in the process of releasing some of these parts for sale, front camber plates, a 1.5 litre sump extention (mandatory for tracking), as well as, a harness bar that mounts to the stock seat belt mounts and a submarine belt bar that mounts to the front seat rail (no drilling of your new chassis). A roll bar for street /track use based on the racecar unit is also available.

We will have these on our new web site soon. (Web guys have their own time lines). We will be offering special pricing direct from MantisSport for Cayman Club members. If you are interested in learning more about these products or others that may be of use to you, please drop Ernie or I a line and we will be happy discuss your individual requirements.

What's the story behind the '(mandatory for tracking)' sump extension?

Is there some kind of known oil starvation issue with the 3.4 liter? Is it a matter of just having more cooling oil or some other percieved weakness in Porsche's design of the Cayman?

Is this something that's either caused or exacerbated by putting better cornering tires &/or suspension modifications on the car? Something a car on street tires and suspension wouldln't or shouldn't see?

Thanks

mike

You can also get a rollbar from TC Design in the Bay Area and from Cascade Autosport in the Seattle area.

I have not heard of any oil starvation issues when running 'normal' r-compound tires. Maybe with slicks?!

sleepless,

It isn't an oil starvation issue as much as it is oil getting sucked into the intake side of the engine under high lateral g loads. The Mantis sump extension adds more oil, but it also has a baffle that helps prevent the oil getting sucked into the intake side, through the engine and out the exhaust which a 1/2 dozen or so people have witnessed on the track.

Looks great.

How's the access to the engine compartment?

Do you have to remove the roll bar?

Do you have to drill into the car to install?

Are you happy with it?

Would you change anything?

Thanks.

Cascade is in Redmond WA. Mine was the first Cayman bar they did; I'm not sure if they will require future bars to be installed in the shop or not. You'll need to contact them.

I think the top engine cover can still be removed with the bar in place.

Yes, you have to drill into the floor and into the rear shock towers.

I'm very happy wth it

Thanks for paving the way on the rollbar front.

I'm still working with Porsche to reprogram the ECU to ignore the missing seat airbags and automatic weight sensor in the passenger seat.
