Not sure if you saw
this posting, but I managed to shred a new set of 19' Michelen PS2s in one weekend of autocross school. Apart from becoming a better driver (!), I continue to get advice to buy a set of 18' wheels and look at running some kind of R-compound tires, and since it looks like I am going to keep tracking as well as autocrossing, this is probably going to be more satisfying as well as cheaper.
So, I'm looking for advice on wheels & tires.
One possibility for wheels is the standard CS 18's, which I think K-man S declared to be particularly light-weight. Tirerack recommends BBS RS-GT for the CS, though not sure whether the 8' or 8.5' width would be best for the front. Will these be compatible with
TPMS; does it require sensors to be added to the wheels?
For tires, many people seem to be running the Michelen Pilot Sport Cups, which I've heard are very good on the track but less so for autocross. The Kumho VictoRacers seem to be better for autocross, and both can be driven to the track, which is almost a must for me at this stage. Presumably both brands should fit the wheels I've listed, or can you start to mix-and-match wheel sizes & tires if you move away from strict CS compatibility?
Anyway, all advice welcome. Thanks!!

TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.
See the TPMS FAQ for more info. |
