This weekend UCR played host to the
PCA Club Racing croud at our home track, Mosport. As Crew-Chief I have never had a more succesfull weekend, five class wins, two seconds and a third from the seven cars we ran. What could top this performance? How about two overall victories for the MantisSport/Pfaff Porsche Cayman S race car!
Heavy rain caused Saturday's Sprint races to be re-scheduled for Sunday morning and this forced them to re-organize the grouping from three races to two. D class became one of the faster classes in the first race and we siezed the opportunity.
During qualifying on Saturday we turned one hot lap, 1:34 and a new 'D' class track record for Ernie and the Cayman S. From overall pole position on Sunday morning the Cayman S led the field to the start and never looked back. Fourteen laps of the 2.5 mile road course later the checker flag waved for Ernie and the Cayman S, we had our first overall win and the third class win of the season.
In the afternoon Enduro the MantisSport Cayman S again led the field to the start. Pushed hard by a GT-5 914 Ernie struggled to keep the Cayman S in the lead. The track was greasy and we had tire pressures rising due to the heat and decided to pit early to blead the air out of the tires. A perfect pit stop from the crew (we had three other cars in at the same time) and Ernie went back to work maintaining his perfect weekend, leading every lap and securing the second overall victory for the MantisSport Cayman S.
Our Next stop on the
PCA racing calender is Daytona in October, we will keep you abreast of developments as we prepare the Cayman S for it's highest speed test of the year.
