Track video from Thunderhill

Last week I drove 700 miles from Seattle to Willows, CA to drive at Thunderhill Raceway for two days. Then drove 700 miles back home! The trip gave me an opportunity to test out some new items I've added to the car, including GT3 seats, Schroth 6 point harness, H&R springs and Nitto NT01 r-compound tires (I drove on them to and from the track), and a DL1 datalogger. All the items performed flawlessly!

Here is a video of my fastest lap (2:14): cayman thill 7-06.wmv

For comparison, I drove my Lotus Elise at Thunderhill in April and ran a 2:10 (elise.wmv); But that was on Hoosiers and after I'd driven the car at the track over 3500 miles. So, I'll be back with the Cayman S at THill in September to see if I can get it down to 2:12 on the NT01s or RA1s

That was with Proformance Racing School. We had a lot of first time track drivers in Group 1 and the school uses those coned gates to guide people to the correct entry line... I hate those gates. I have a clip of decapitating their cone in T9!

Here is the video of the death of a cone; after this incident I asked them to remove the gate at T9.

Very nice videos -- you are very smooth. I liked the Elise video with the very audible heel and toe downshifts and no shuffle steering!

Can you compare the Elise and Cayman when you get a chance? I'd love to hear your thoughts given that you've hada chance to drive both close to its limits.

Sleepless,

great run, it looks like you need a more challenging course. Made it look too easy!!

great videos!

i can't believe they let you wear shorts on track. most events i've done have required long pants and long-sleeve shirts.

It was 110+ degrees... I think there would have been a riot if we could not wear shorts... The instructors were even wearing them!!
