I thought I would ask this question in this section as you probably have more experience of observing Caymans in high speed passes.
Did a track day at Bedford Autodrome this weekend, and there were 3 other Caymans there. For this reason I had a chance to see and hear some other Caymans in action.
My question is, standing in the pit lane and watching the Caymans go past, they make a very distinctive sound over 90-100 mph. It sounds a bit like a cross between tearing air, and a lwo flying jet fighter plane. A sort of high pitched, howl.
It sounds fantastic, but no other Porsche (and there were 70+ there) made that sound as it went past the pits.
mooty, it is the fact that the Cayman is indeed breaking the sound barrier for very brief periods of time, then the porsche marketing restrictors kick in and instantly slow the car down to sub sonic speeds...

i see, no wonder i love the car so much. i will working on breaking the 'light' barrier next time. was it 300m/s?

The jet-like sound is quite noticeable and distinctive. You can hear it in this video from my first track day (at ButtonWillow), as the Cayman S makes its passes down the main straight. I thought it might be from the spoiler, or maybe its just the big intake sucking noise courtesy of K-man's desnork.
