I Changed my Brake Fluid (horribly expensive) and my Pads, and have just got an extraset of Standard 18' Cayman Wheels and have fitted:-


Toyo R.888 - 235/40/18 (645mm Circumference) Cut Slick Tyres - Front


Toyo R.888 - 265/35/18 (644mm Circumference) Cut slick Tyres - Rear


For Track Day use (and road legal to get to the track day)


I could not find 'racing tyres' to suit 19' rims - Is that right? So bought the extra standard 18' wheels (surely the taller sidewalls will flex more on 18's?)


The Fitters could not advise the correct pressures, but just did it by eye.... 30 Front 35 Rear - Really!


Can anyone help with good starting pressures? (Don't want to fall off at the second corner)

I would check the toyo website, they have a lot of good info on their tires there.

R888s are not 'cut slicks'... they are just sticky road legal tyres.... they are in the MSA (motorsport association) as list 1B tyres, not as 'slicks'. They are meant to be pretty good, though Yokohoma 048s (or 032s if you can find them) are normally considered 'better'.


As for the 18' wheels vs 19'... 19' are for bling show. 18' are for go... smaller, lighter, faster and the higher sidewall lets the tyre work better (ever seen the sidewalls on F1 cars???)

19' wheels may be heavier,but so are 18' tyres as there is far more rubber. J

Pressures:

Start at 30psi front-36psi rear (that's cold)

888's are very good in the dry, but 'exciting' in the wet (probably because they only have chevrons cut and no radial grooves)
<p class="MsoNormal">They are classed as a road tyres (again cause they are E marked) but most consider them (along with the Dunlops and Toyo’s) as a “Track Day” <st1:city w:st="on"><st1lace w:st="on">Tyre</st1lace></st1:city>
