Aren't the hawk hps pads primarily intended to be a street pad? Do you plan on using them for the track also? (asking since this is in the competition forum) I've been planning to switch to the hps pads for the street, but based on what I've read I didn't think they would begood for the track.
The metal cylinders on the pads look like they may touch each other if the pads are worn out and they are not replaced, they may be there to prevent the pistons of the calipers from coming out if someone was stupid enough to run the pads to the point where they chewed up the rotors.
Just a guess though. Surprised that the sensors melted, I wonder which ones they use on the PCCB's?

Ken What ever happen with these pads? The hawk HPS pads. How do they compare to stock? Noise, stopping power cold/hot, durability, noise?
Thanks
First I fixed the link in the first post to link to the new article location, thanks for bringing that to my attention.
Second here are my comparison to stock:
1) No discernable braking difference on the street during daily driving, they stop plenty well as they should, but so does the stock pad.
2) A LOT less brake dust than the stock pad - cleaning wheels is now a breeze
3) Limited track testing showed very good stopping power, but a different "feel" than the stock pad, perhaps less initial bite than the stock pad but then progessively getting more bite to where the stopping power exceeded stock pads.
4) Still too early to judge wear rates.
5) Noise - none whatsoever a very quiet pad.
Good work K-Man, those lines are pesky critters aren't they?
For those who wish, Hawk has a very good discription of the different pads available on their website (www.hawkperformance.com). The HPS is a good all round choice for a performance street/track pad. The advantage K-Man will get is increased performance when hot, with little noticably loss cold (street). The HP Plus is a more aggresive street/track pad that will provide better initial grip but more brake dust, faster rotor wear and less pad life.
When you choose the more agressive pads, Hawk Blues and up, noise and cold braking on the street become an issue. I love the Blues! Great pedal feel and when hot they stop! The disadvantage is the you will tear up the rotors when cold, they squeal like a pig on the street and produce copious quantities of toxic brake dust. The Black racing compound is probably more suited for driving to the track.
Remember, brakes, like tires are consumables. The better they work the more often you will have to replace them.
I ran the HPS pads on my last car because of the brake dust from the stock pads. I loved them, much less dust, but...what a surprise the first time in a heavy rain storm and the pads got good and wet. The first pump of the pedal and nothing there. After the third pump the brakes would come back. This happened whenever the pads got real wet and sometimes in the snow. I Wintercrossed a few times and braking would be a challenge until the rotors got hot.
Anyone running the HPS pads in their CS have this experiance?
