after tracking the car earlier in the season I found my power steering leaking from the seals. I brought it to my porsche dealer and they replaced all the seals and lines. I had no problems for about 2 months and 3 more track days. I went to Watkins for a 3 day DE with Metro PCA and when I got home I heard the dreaded power steering noise. You know the noise that when you turn the wheel it sounds like it is dying, because it is. Well back to manhattan motor cars and I am now waiting for new set of seals and lines for the second time. According to Boxster guys the only solution is a power steering cooler, which I will now do. I am glad a have a trailer for the track. I wouldn't want to get stuck with out power steering.

Have you tried not steering so much at the track? Seriously, sorry to hear about the problem, but hope it is confined to you and doesn't spread to the rest of us. So far, Mooty, Sleepless and I haven't encountered it yet in our track miles.
Farnbacher told me they had 2 other customer caymans with the same issue. They have not had repeat problems yet.

both farnbacher and ruf told me that boxster and cayman pwr steering pump will eventually die to overheating that a pwr steering cooler will be needed.
so far, i am ok. fingers crossed.
anyone installed a 3rd radiator yet? if so, which kind? install DIY directions?

I have farnbacher working on a cost efficient power steering cooler setup, once they have one worked out I will see if they will offer some sort of kit to sell. And I do believe the high temps melted the seals. The pump has not given up just yet.
As far as the 3rd radiator, I installed it sometime ago. It has been great even in 100 degree temps at VIR the water temp was nice and cool. All the plumbing is there, it is just a matter of getting the parts. I used all Porsche parts from the 997.

For those of us technically challenged, who will need to get someone to do the work, can you list the parts needed?
Also you state the plumbing is already there? Are these blanked access points or are there physical tubes, unused in place (to the front centre scoop area). As for the 3rd radiator, what do you use it for currently (I presume it will be used for the Steering system cooler eventually)?

Reason: fixed quotes
it is the GT3 center radiator and hoses. Follow the links from above. I will mount the steering cooler somewhere in the back of the car, maybe in the right side vent or underneath the car. It doesn't need to be in the front it just needs airflow. A third radiator is just there to help cool the engine on really hot days.
I do not know if there are price differences or any fitment issues with the GT3 radiator; however, the CS tiptronic comes with the 3rd radiator mounted at the front center to cool the transmission and obviously it is a perfect fit, that can certainly be used to cool the power steering unit with slight modifications to the plumbing. The DIY is in the post I posted previously.
