I have the lifter noise as well and have not cpmplained yet i thoought i would give it another 1k mi to loosen up. trunk clunk is also annoying but other than that no issues with my car, could use another 100 horses but then i would just get in trouble
I agree that a lot more of the options should be standard on a car of this price. And no that shouldn't make the car more expensive it should just be included. Porsche's profit margins are the largest in the industry already.
I think the lighting on the guages at night is pretty plain. I'm not asking for blue and red or anything crazy, but the dull white is just boring.
I hate the seatbelt chime that goes on forever, I'm a big boy I'll put the seatbelt on myself without being reminded thak you very much.
That's about it. The only other thing is it's a bit hard to get in and out of, but I realize that's the nature of the beast, and I'm fine with that.
there is lifter noise at idle when warm. it does sound like one lifter is stuck. i have not pointed this out to the dealer yet, but will.
as i said, it has already been in for service four times in the two months i have owned it (twice for issues that had left it undriveable), so i am not terribly keen on returning.
I can see why the apprehension. If possible find another dealer and before surrendering your car, meet the actual service manager and their lead tech. Feel them out. If they instill confidence in an outstanding manner, then give them a chance to repair your Cayman. Good luck.

I admittedly have not even taken delivery of my CS yet but...
I think the omission of a limited slip diff is borderline inexcusable in a $60K sports car. Also, based on a fair amount of seat time in a friend's car there are too many misc interior squeaks, rattles, and thumps. Given where the meat of the torque curve is steeper ratios for gears 1-3 wouldn't hurt either. Regardless, still an absolutely brilliant car.
We are all full of praise for the Cayman but there are just a few minor things that could have been done better...
Having a right hand drive version here, there is one BIG thing that annoys the heck out of me. That damn right hand side air intake fan! Being in a warm to hot climate here it seems it is always running and the noise level is so loud it is rather embarrassing and VERY annoying I must say. Porsche seriously needs to cut the noise level of this. You guys hearing this???
Could be a good idea to compile a sticky hit list of things Porsche should improve on in the design.
I'm new to the club, and I have to say it speaks to the quality of the discussions and participants here that this thread even exists. I have been on other enthusiast forums where (not exaggerating here) I believe starting a thread like this would result in a big hit to the member in question's reputation as an absolute minimum penalty, and the thread would probably be pulled by a moderator. Here's to reasonable and informative discussions of all things Cayman!
I have not received my car yet, but hopefully it will not have squeaks and rattles, as some of you have stated. I can't stand squeaks and rattles. I would expect that a $60,000+ Porsche would be squeak and rattle free. If my isn't, it will be at the dealer quite quickly. I understand, as some of you have said in this thread and in others, that there is a major clunk in the hatch area. It seems to have been a problem since 2006 and Porsche doesn't seem to have a fix (except possible dealers on their own). That is, to me, not a very good reflection on Porsche and customer service. Are they simply unable to find a solution to the problem, or is it really not being addressed properly? Doesn't make any sense to me that the engineers at Porsche couldn't solve and fis the problem quite quickly. MY 1997 BMW is basically rattle, clunk, and squeak free. I sure hope that the newer Porsche Cayman S will also be.

I don't understand why a thread like this would or should bring a big hit to someone's reputation, with it possibly being pulled by a moderator. I have posted over 5000 times on a very well respected bicycle forum, whose product is respected, in the world of cycling, every bit as well as Porsche is respected in the world of cars. Other bicycles are constantly brought up, and there is even an image gallery for other bicycles. Comments are given, both favorably and critical relative to the the forum's own bicycles and policies. There is a much more open flow of posts on the forum, with much less moderator control. Some of the absolutely best bike builders in the world regulary frequent and post on the forum. The content is genuinely remarkable.
I do think that this forum seems much better organized, moderated, and controlled. This forum is simply outstanding for its content, organization, and totally civil discourse. However, there is something to be said for a free flow of content, with limited moderator intervention. It is a tough balance to maintain. I think the moderators overall do an excellent job with the balance here.
Are we to believe that the Caymans are complaint free? Should we avoid mentioning such complaints? I think it is most insightful and helpful to other owners to state such complaints. It should actually be helpful to Porsche and its dealers. People on this forum obviously are remarkably passionate about their Caymans. I don't think some complaints about the cars hurt this forum, its dealers, or Porsche itself. These complaints should be beneficial.
1. Xenon should have been standard
2. ipod integration and bluetooth as options
3. Much thicker steering wheel as standard
4. Better key fob
5. Keyless entry as an option
#2. That's for sure
#2a. Needs an integrated satelite radio option.
